The Buyer is responsible for purchasing industrial machinery and materials for domestic and international projects and providing support for budgetary development in the pre-project phase and vendor expediting in the project execution phase.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Review requisitions for completeness, issue inquiries to qualified vendors, and coordinate technical reviews
  • Analyze vendor quotations for compliance with requisition requirements
  • Develop relationships with vendors to obtain favorable delivery, schedule, price, and commercial terms and conditions
  • Place purchase orders for technical items and large volume commodity items in coordination with project schedules utilizing current ERP and MRP systems.
  • Maintain purchasing records
  • Provide frequent, timely and results-oriented vendor expediting to verify and influence manufacturing schedules, shipping schedules or drawing/document submittal schedules
  • Utilize the ERP System as it relates to the Project Procurement Department’s expediting functions (i.e. update all salient schedule milestones for material acquisition, manufacturing progress, shipping schedule/actual, etc.)
  • Attend the weekly shipping meetings to update project manager on status of orders
  • Maintain and update, as needed, budget report on all items purchased, invoice report on all purchased items, warranty log of all applicable items
  • Liaise with either/both Midrex Global Logistics and the clients’ designated freight forwarders to effect shipments
  • Keep abreast of and advise on new project developments as they affect areas of responsibility.

Skills/Abilities:

Required:

  • Experience in an industrial purchasing environment
  • Proficient with a typical ERP system
  • Proficient with a typical MRP document control systems
  • Strong critical thinking and negotiation skills
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of ISO related requirements
  • Practical knowledge of industrial product markets and suppliers
  • Proficient with a typical ERP system, specifically Microsoft AX
  • Proficient with a typical MRP systems, specifically SmarTeam

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree or five (5) years related experience in an industrial purchasing environment.

Travel Requirements:

  • 10% – 20% International and Domestic based project demands

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move around a project site, including climbing stairs.
