A multi-national IPP that has coverage across the US for solar, wind and storage projects with an incredibly strong pipeline in WECC.

They have a fantastic opportunity to appoint a new Senior Director of Development to spearhead the group’s Development efforts across the Western US and build on the existing pipeline.

Job Description

The Senior Director of Development (utility-scale) will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage a team of renewable energy developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team growth and project success.
  • Drive the Regional development team and its strategy for renewable energy projects, from initial feasibility assessments through to project execution and commercial operation.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, finance, legal and other teams to streamline project development processes and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Identify and evaluate new opportunities for renewable energy projects, conducting market research, feasibility studies, and financial analyses.
  • Manage relationships with key project stakeholders including landowners, government agencies, local communities, etc.
  • Monitor project performance metrics and financial targets, implementing strategies to optimize project outcomes and mitigate risks.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes in the renewable energy sector.
  • Lead the Regional development opportunities for hydro, wind, solar and BESS projects in accordance with the company’s strategic plan and priorities.
  • Develop and implement strategies and ensure the implementation of actions in order to advance projects, obtain competitive advantages and stand out from competitors.

The Successful Applicant

The Senior Director of Development (utility-scale) will be eligible for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in renewable energy project development, with a focus on solar, wind and BESS.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing and motivating teams.
  • Expertise in project evaluation and financial analysis.
  • Experience managing partnerships and negotiating contracts.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) with a focus on interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project teams, build strong relationships, and work effectively and courteously with partners and clients.
  • Analytical skills, ability to work effectively on multiple projects at the same time within multidisciplinary project teams across multiple offices and time zones.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of key project contracts: power purchase agreements, generator interconnection agreements, turbine and equipment supply contracts, partnership and purchase and sale contracts, and operation and maintenance contracts.
  • In-depth understanding of the creation and experience of electricity supply RFP processes.
  • Clear understanding of development processes and procedures (real estate, environment, permitting, interconnection and transmission, financing and outreach), development timelines and stakeholders involved in successful project development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint).

What’s on Offer

The Senior Director of Development (utility-scale) will be eligible for:

  • $200,000 – $240,000 base salary
  • Annual bonus scheme (25%)
  • Flexibility for fully remote work or work in the San Diego office
