About the role

The ESS Certification Engineer at magniX will be responsible for developing and leading execution of a certification plan for the Energy Storage System (ESS) while ensuring the ESS and its components will meet the applicable requirements. This is a novel aircraft system without standard certification criteria which will require regular engagement with regulators and industry committees to formulate a certification strategy. Additionally, the certification engineer will be expected to support design reviews, support requirement development, support test planning and execution, and mentor junior engineers.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Determine certification strategy for the novel system of a propulsion battery system.
  • Develop and submit certification plans and documents for the ESS program for regulatory authorities.
  • Lead engagement with regulators.
  • Guide the design team to ensure a certifiable ESS through informing requirements development, participating in regular design reviews, and managing certification risks.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies related to propulsion battery systems.
  • Represent magniX in electric aerospace and battery focused industry committees.
  • Support test planning, preparation, and execution to ensure certification criteria are met through the test program.


Qualifications

  • BS or higher in Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • 7+ years experience working with certification of aircraft systems.
  • Experience working directly with the FAA, EASA, and/or other regulators on aircraft system certification programs. Previous experience with lithium battery systems TSOs (or any other TSO) is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Location

  • Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX’s location in Everett, Washington.

This position’s approximate base salary range is $137,000 – $150,000 per year, depending on years of experience and level of education.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a U.S. Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. Under 120.15, a U.S. Person includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. As this position requires access to export-controlled data, an appropriate export authorization by the U.S. Government may be required prior to such access. Employment, and the continuity of employment of non-U.S. persons, is contingent upon the companys ability to secure and maintain the necessary export control authorization.
