Job Description

Madison Energy Infrastructure (“MEI”) believes in the power of clean energy infrastructure and has quickly emerged as a preeminent developer, investor, asset owner, and operator of distributed generation. This role represents a critical next step in MEI’s evolution toward offering direct, end-to-end services to Fortune 500 corporates, public entities, nonprofits, and other private customers alike and building out development pipelines to finance renewable energy projects with our development partners.

The Midwest Market Lead will play a critical role in MEI’s Business & Market Development team and will be responsible for identifying, incubating, and growing relationships with local and regional developers and EPC firms seeking to partner with IPPs like MEI to finance, own, and operate clean energy projects. The position will collaborate and work closely with colleagues across market development, marketing, M&A, legal, and commercial analysis to generate proposals, advance negotiations, and nurture projects from origination through diligence, development, and beyond.

The ideal candidate for this role is a self-starter drawn to the intersection of business development, policy, and deal structuring. The candidate should have a proven record of clean energy business development leadership and success in the energy sector, exceptional communication skills, strong interpersonal and multi-tasking skills, and generally be comfortable in an entrepreneurial setting.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Identify emerging and mature market opportunities to provide clean energy solutions directly to our expanding network of developer and EPC partners.
  • Cultivate relationships with new partners and create clean energy projects for acquisition, involving onsite and offsite solar and energy storage.
  • Serve as MEI’s on-the-ground leader and ambassador for the US Midwest—attend conferences, speak on panels, and represent the company across the region and at local engagements.
  • Serve as MEI’s expert of in-market policy, programs and regulations, supplying this leadership across the MEI team at large.
  • Negotiate commercial terms to secure exclusivity and drive toward diligence, development, and construction.
  • Work closely with our M&A and legal teams to ensure successful closing of deals originated.
  • Work closely with our Commercial Analysis team to ensure understanding of program and tariff rules on a project-by-project basis as well as strong economic returns for MEI.
  • Research, plan, and execute new target market initiatives.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Displays a sense of urgency, excels in creative problem-solving, and strives to exceed partner expectations.
  • Comfortable with independence and open to taking calculated risks.
  • Quick decision-maker in dynamic environments with a collaborative and action-oriented approach.
  • Possess deep knowledge of clean energy markets, trends, and technologies, with hands-on experience in onsite, offsite, storage, and EV charging solutions.
  • Possess keen skillset on negotiation and deal structuring, with hands on experience negotiating contracts.
  • Displays strong organizational and leadership qualities, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to multitask with a strong work ethic and a team-first mentality.
  • Entrepreneurial approach to originating new deals and business streams within an organization, backed up by a track record of success in clean energy development or origination.
