Solar Electrician

Job Description LightWave Solar is the trusted source for turnkey solar PV and energy storage installations in the Southeast. We are looking for a journeyman level (or equivalent) electrician who is motivated to learn and participate in the solar electric industry. This position does not require solar-specific experience and instead could be an excellent entry opportunity into the industry for journeyman with the right experience. This position requires a wide range of skills which could run from trouble shooting a CAT 5 communications circuit to installing large switchgear. Experience which would translate to our industry, while not an exact matchup but covers the same or similar skill sets, includes:

Thorough knowledge of the NEC

Troubleshooting aptitude

Working with 480 v, 3 phase

CAT 5 and communication experience

PLC or similar programming. What we are looking for is the ability to deal with monitoring and inverter screens and menus, set and check software parameters, and communicate with manufacturer tech support.

Experience with 4,160 up to 24 kv is not required, but a plus

Transformer experience

Non-solar inverter experience. For example, large emergency lighting inverter battery banks or large UPS systems.

EV charger installation

Ability to work on roofs and at heights.

Familiarity with PPE and OSHA

Through knowledge of reading and applying blueprints and specifications

Measuring, drilling, cutting & fabricating assemblies with aluminum, steel, wood, copper, etc.

Ground work experience

DC circuits up to 1500v

Variable speed motor drives

Electrical experience bears priority over telecom experience in the list above. Minimum electrical experience of 5 to 10 years. This position will require some overnight travel. We are looking for someone with a “can-do” attitude who focuses on solutions to problems. Good relations with co-workers is very important. Good verbal and written communication skills are key.
