Summary Description
RE Tech Advisors is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and passionate Sustainability Programs Manager to support our commercial real estate client sustainability programs. This position is responsible to perform day-to-day project management responsibilities, including executing on established plans and managing under the direction and oversight of the Sustainability Programs Senior Manager/Director and Account Manager. The Sustainability Programs Manager is expected to progress in at least one of the following areas of responsibility: budget management, people management, and client ESG Program Strategy. The position will report to our McLean, Virginia office (13 miles west of Washington, D.C.) or our Dallas, Texas office. RE Tech does provide a hybrid work model for those who report to an office, and after a successful onboarding period.
Essential Job Functions

  • Perform day-to-day client and project management for client ESG Programs, under the direction of and following plans established by the Sustainability Programs Director/Senior Manager. Provide excellence and client satisfaction for all work you manage, engaging your Sustainability Programs Director/Senior Manager, Account Manager and Strategic Advisor, as needed, to ensure overall client satisfaction.
  • Successfully complete all work product under your management, ensuring work is delivered on time within scope, factually accurate, and meets client expectations.
  • Identify and make Supervisor aware of any concerns regarding staff capacity, staff planning, sequencing, and prioritization of client work.
  • Manage your team to operate efficiently by implementing process improvements established by the Sustainability Programs team, including processes, tools, software, practices, and replicable work that can be standardized to scale delivery. Recommend the need for process improvements, and support development of improvements when tasked.
  • Coordinate with Practice Area teams, as appropriate, on work to be delivered for your client.
  • Support proper set up and close out all client work under your management, participating in After-Action Reviews (or periodic reviews).
  • Support day-to-day budget management by inputting and updating hours allocations and budgets created and overseen by the Account Manager, review of time entries and reject incorrect entries; monitor time billed against allocations and address hourly budget issues.
  • Support the generation of property-level invoices by downloading the active property list, reviewing and assigning fees based on services
  • Support and contribute to the development, career progression, performance management, and engagement of staff who support your client programs. As appropriate, provide coaching, training, input on goals and development plans, and feedback to team members directly as well as to their Supervisor.
  • Participate in the Talent Acquisition process, as directed, to support hiring needs on your client programs, and under the oversight of others.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, with direction and oversight from the client Account Manager and in coordination with Senior Director of ESG Programs, VP of Growth, the VP of Client Success:
  • Participate in internal annual client strategy meetings.
  • Ensure client success through renewals as well as expanding support for existing clients, engaging Practice Areas and internal experts as appropriate.
  • Redirect any new business opportunities to the VP of Growth.
  • Support delivery of appropriate trainings, exposure, and experiences within your client program team. Help ensure that existing and new staff within your team are trained as appropriate for their role on team offerings, services, and processes, as well as any changes or additions therein.
  • Effectively and appropriately utilize the RE Tech Rotational Program staff to perform work identified by others as appropriate for that team. Train or oversee the training of RE Tech Rotational Program staff and manage to ensure accurate completion of work.
  • Progress in at least one of the following areas of responsibility:
  • Budget Management:
  • Manage the setup and close out of your client work, as well as After-Action (or periodic) Reviews with little oversight.
  • Begin to create program budgets (hours and dollars), monthly staffing allocations, and oversight of budget tracking for your client programs, with oversight and input from the client Account Manager.
  • Contribute to the development of SOWs for your teams client programs and provide level of effort estimates upon request to help inform budgets.
  • Support the corporate level invoicing process
  • People Management:
  • Progress from indirect to direct oversight as a Supervisor of one or more junior staff. Responsible for direct reports performance management, growth and development. Carry out Supervisor responsibilities, including quarterly performance check-ins, with the oversight of your Supervisor and Director.
  • Strategy:
  • Begin to provide strategic thinking and recommendations on your client work to the client Account Manager, such as recommending solutions to client problems, identifying additional services needed to help your client achieve their programs, etc. Seek input and approval by your ESG Programs Director/Senior Manager and engage expertise of other teams as needed.
  • Properly and accurately track all of your time worked and expenses in on time and expense keeping system.
  • Know and follow company policies and processes.
  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

  • Working knowledge of energy, sustainability, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices and programs.
  • Familiar with U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
  • Advanced knowledge with online collaboration and file sharing tools, such as SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Experience

  • At least five years of directly relevant experience, one year of which in a manager role.
  • Experience handling day-to-day task level management and some client communications on a small project or portion of client program, and/or some past experience operating in a similar capacity to this role.
  • Experience supporting successful sustainability, ESG, energy and/or decarbonization programs at scale across large portfolios of commercial real estate assets, with specific expertise focused on one or more of the follow commercial sectors: office, multifamily, retail, warehouse, senior care, medical office, and hospitality.
  • Experience delegating tasks and overseeing the work of others.
  • Experience in a client facing consulting role, delivering professional services, and building relationships across clients and internal teams.

Travel Requirements
Periodic travel is required/may be required for the role. Travel may include travel to RE Tech offices, if remote, or between RE Tech offices (Tysons Corner, VA and Dallas, Texas) for meetings (estimate of four times per year), as well as for Legence and/or client business needs.
