The Performance Engineering Manager will collaborate with a seasoned team comprising experts in asset management, finance & accounting, procurement, and construction to optimize the performance of the company’s wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Engineering and Performance Analytics.
Key responsibilities include
- Assess the performance of wind, solar, and BESS assets to maximize energy production and revenues.
- Identifying and resolving underlying issues causing underperformance, working closely with asset managers, engineers, and in-house (and third-party) O&M operators.
- Engaging with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to address equipment under-performance issues.
- Generating monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports in collaboration with the Asset Management team.
- Performing loss calculations based on factors such as soiling/snow, curtailment, etc.
- Writing and negotiating availability guarantees, performance ratios, and capacity test exhibits for project contracts.
- Calculating contractual availability guarantees in coordination with asset managers using SCADA data.
- Providing support to the Asset Management team for project operations.
- Assist in the evaluation and establishment of SCADA and remote monitoring systems.
- Offering feedback on design improvements to engineering and pre-construction teams.
- Assisting in major equipment warranty claims, leading root cause analyses for equipment failures and support the recovery of these failures.
- Assist the finance team on technical and performance-related matters.
- Staying informed about emerging issues in project equipment through industry contacts, subscriptions, and event participation.
- Undertaking further duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- 4 to 8 years of experience supporting utility-scale wind, solar, and BESS projects.
- 4 to 8 years of experience in performance engineering roles within an (IPP), asset owner/operator, or Independent Engineering firm.
- Proficiency in software tools, including MS Office, PVSyst, and monitoring platforms like Wonderware, Ignition, GPM, Power Factors and other solar optimization software.
- Knowledgeable about technologies used in utility-scale solar, BESS, and Wind projects.
- Beneficial to have experience with new and emerging technology evaluation.
- Construction/Civil-Engineering experience is beneficial.
- Battery Energy Storage System modelling and wind project energy estimation is a plus.
- Travel 25% to 30% for projects, conferences, and industry events.
- Current authorization to live and work in the U.S. is required.
