Position Overview:

The ESG Analyst / Associate will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s efforts to measure, report, and communicate its accretive ESG and decarbonization programs. This role involves working closely with various teams and stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting. This person will contribute to the planning and execution of both internal and external reporting, including annual and investor reporting, collaborating with subject matter experts to develop report content, and ensuring compliance with emerging regulations and ESG goals.

Additionally, this person will support the execution of firm-wide value-creating decarbonization initiatives and preparation of related reports, such as GHG emissions reduction inventories, helping to drive transparency and accountability. This hire will stay informed about voluntary ESG standards and frameworks, as well as emerging climate-related regulations, to provide valuable insights and support the organization’s climate-related efforts through industry working groups.

Strong understanding of investment process or asset management is strongly preferred. This role will report to the Senior Managing Director of ESG for Kayne Anderson Real Estate.

Essential Job Functions (Duties/Responsibilities):

ESG Communications and Reporting

  • Provide content for internal and external reporting initiatives such as the Annual Report, ensuring that our sustainability efforts are accurately and effectively communicated to stakeholders
  • Contribute to the planning, project management, and process development to enable appropriate reporting
  • Translate internal ESG data analysis into case studies and reporting materials
  • Maintain working knowledge of voluntary ESG standards and frameworks such as PRI, TCFD, GRESB and stay up to date with how the ESG reporting industry is evolving
  • Work with ESG team to develop and implement ESG strategy and goals as needed
  • Develop sustainability/ESG content and Investor Relations materials in collaboration with Marketing & Communications and Investor Relations
  • Support and drive ESG recognitions and award submissions
  • Participate in and serve as a Company ambassador at ESG conferences, webinars, industry meetings and training sessions, such as ULI

Decarbonization

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and information for climate reporting purposes
  • Conduct research and stay updated on emerging climate-related regulations, frameworks, and reporting guidelines
  • Support efforts to prepare content, data, and information for climate-related reports, such as GRESB, PRI, TCFD, GHG Emissions
  • Collaborate regularly with Operations, Accounting, Facilities, Investments, Development, Property Management, and Capital teams
  • Prepare materials for internal approval presentations
  • Demonstrate experience with sustainability and energy/carbon reduction targets
  • Support compliance plan for municipal building energy performance standards, electrification/natural gas ban regulations, and net zero energy codes

Skills/Abilities:

  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred (Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business)
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to explain complex data and content in a clear and impactful way
  • Experience with ESG and reporting standards and frameworks, preferably GHG Protocol, TCFD, PRI, GRESB
  • Familiarity with emerging regulations and reporting guidelines related to ESG and climate
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts internally and externally
  • Exhibits a high level of responsiveness, sense of urgency and ability to work creatively and analytically to deliver results
  • Familiarity with real estate investment and operations is desired
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
