Job Description

The ideal candidate will directly report to the Associate Director of Interconnection and will be responsible for the following:

  • Possess knowledge of utility-scale transmission and BESS/Energy storage.
  • Have familiarity with State-level interconnection processes, solar and battery storage facility design, and technical standards.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in power flow, short-circuit, motor starts, and power quality issues like harmonics and flicker. Technical proficiency in DER interconnection, Volt-VAR optimization, and other emerging technologies is required, along with a solid grasp of applicable IEEE standards.
  • Design early-stage distributed solar and battery storage projects, primarily focusing on front-of-the-meter distribution interconnections.
  • Provide support throughout the interconnection application process, design, and construction activities to ensure grid code compliance, cost efficiency, and timely completion.
  • Develop a strategy for equipment changes and design modifications to address feedback from utilities and/or accommodate real-time market signals, policy evolution, and procurement considerations.
  • Conduct expert technical reviews of utility distribution system impact studies and regional transmission studies to understand the full scope of system upgrades required to interconnect individual projects and inform interconnection strategies for subsequent projects.
  • Lead technical negotiations with utility representatives and advocate for the quickest, lowest-cost interconnection outcome.
  • Periodically summarize and present interconnection status updates across all active markets to management.
  • Possess well-rounded technical aptitude, high problem-solving ability, and excellent teamwork skills.

Position Requirements:

  • Preferably hold a BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Have knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices.
  • Possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in transmission or interconnection engineering/design of renewable power systems and working with state-level IOU interconnection tariffs.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
  • Demonstrated success as a team player, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed.
