Job Description
The IEC serves as the front door to the laboratory for startups and venture capitalists looking to advance technologies to the marketplace. The NREL Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC) mission is to build a cleantech ecosystem to empower market solutions that transform communities around the world. The IEC is a leader in working with industry and philanthropic organizations to accelerate the clean energy transition. The IEC prides itself in best-in-class business relationships, events, and cleantech program management.
  • Utilizing the facilities and capabilities of NREL, the IEC develops model technology incubation and scaling programs, such as the Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator (IN2) and Shell Gamechanger powered by NREL (GCxN).
  • The IEC uses the convening power of NREL to work with entrepreneurs, innovators, startups, investors, incubators, universities, national labs, NREL researchers, and industry across the nation and world, connecting them through formalized networks and hosting impactful events, such as the Industry Growth Forum. Our team interacts with this ecosystem daily and shares strategic analyses of our one-of-a-kind data to advance the ecosystem.
Job Duties:
  • Provide operations support for two or more accelerator or incubator programs, as well as operational support for events, or other efforts, as identified
  • Work closely with program managers and teams to support strategy and execution of programs and events, as needed
  • Identify, maintain and continuously improve operation processes. Document in relevant operations guides
  • Manage application outreach to contacts, as needed, support application system management, and application material review
  • Support the oversight of program financials
  • Facilitate agreements, subcontracts, and payments and other operational contracting processes.
  • Keep records in Customer Relationship Management database for contacts and metrics.
  • Support development of relevant annual and other reports
  • Support creating communication materials, as needed
  • Provide center support, as needed (rolling up sleeves and able to assist with other programs in the IEC)
  • Collaborate closely with IEC management and event, network and program teams
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Be genuinely intrigued by climate tech (bioenergy, circular economy, renewables, hydrogen, agtech, etc.)
  • Understand the purpose of bureaucracy, yet know how to navigate its waters and find a clear and easy path through it
  • Be patient and a problem solver in the face of delays
  • Be collaborative, proactive, and can work remotely or in the office, as needed
  • Learn new software quickly and are familiar with utilizing Microsoft Excel, CRM software, and application-based software, such as Momentive
  • Enjoy helping make your colleagues and center shine through quality internal and external customer service
Education: Bachelors Degree or relevant experience in fields such as Business, etc.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant Bachelor’s Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Professional II / Annual Salary Range: $63,600 – $104,900

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
