The Technical Support Engineer will be part of the Siemens Energy O&M Engineering Support Team, supporting our fleet of Combined Cycle plants we operate under long-term contracts on behalf of customers. The role entails preparing routine outstanding technical requests and edits to operating data; unexpectedly you might receive a call from a plant located in another state or country in the North America or Latin America regions that they need help as they’re in a forced outage! Can you help? It could be something you hadn’t worked on previously – can you come up with a strategy to move forward?
This role will be the single point of contact for 1 or more plants. This job requires you to keep track of plant operation and maintenance activities and help run the facility at its optimum availability, reliability, and performance. The position will also work with the O&M PM team and various other internal and external engineering organizations on various short-term and long-term engineering challenges on hand.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Act as a resource for plant O&M management to resolve immediate operational concerns, forced outages, or similar events.
- Collaborate with the various Siemens engineering groups to ensure successful resolution to design/maintenance/operational issues identified at O&M facilities.
- Take ownership and follow issues to closure and successful resolution.
- Review recommended product modifications and improvements for cost-effective applications at O&M facilities.
- Use the Siemens Energy tools and systems such as T3000, PCM, etc. to resolve the technical and engineering issues in a timely manner at the plants.
- Advocate and develop innovative ideas and solutions for your assigned plants and the fleet.
- Lead the mobilization of new O&M contracts by preparing CMMS plant maintenance databases and developing maintenance plans and strategies using industrial (best) standard processes.
What You Bring
- BS/BA in Engineering, Physics/Thermodynamics, Materials Science or Computer Science related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of successful experience in power plant Operation and maintenance or combined cycle power plant design/engineering/commissioning/ field services.
- Motivated self-starter that can identify and complete tasks with minimal direction. Standout colleague with a “can do” attitude!
- Comprehension of P&IDs, Electrical schematics, Control logic, and other engineering drawings typical for power plants.
- Familiarity with Large Gas turbines, Steam Turbines, and the associated ancillary equipment (preferably Siemens-supplied).
- Knowledge of plant equipment maintenance methodologies will train in Mainsaver CMMS software application.
- Physical requirements include sitting/standing and the possibility of working on feet for 12-hour periods. Requires stair and ladder climbing and on occasion entering a confined space. Protective equipment must be worn while on sites (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.).
- The position occasionally requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by accessibility to personnel, equipment, and plant conditions.
- Up to 25% travel including onsite presence during scheduled and forced outages, special projects, and customer meetings. May be short notice before travel.
- Understanding of, and experience in, large rotating equipment, Steam and Gas Turbines, Generators, DCS systems associated with Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control systems, Mechanical systems, heat exchangers, Water treatment plants, Cooling tower systems maintenance systems (planned and corrective)
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
