What to Expect
As part of the Autobidder Operations team, you will leverage your knowledge of wholesale energy markets to analyze and report on the performance of the growing Autobidder fleet worldwide. You will drive continual performance improvements of Tesla’s in-house automated trading platform, Autobidder, which manages the largest fleet of battery storage projects in the world, ranging from utility-scale batteries to virtual power plants. You will be responsible for generating insightful and actionable analyses, communicating complex and nuanced topics to broad audiences, and presenting to internal and external stakeholders. You will partner with Trading Engineers and your work will inform the deployment of new trading strategies under defined market conditions, will support operating committee reviews and will include real-time monitoring of Autobidder, balancing risk and expected returns from different trading strategies.
You will contribute to Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by driving continuous improvement in battery revenues and accelerating the storage adoption needed to support high renewable power systems. You have a passion for tackling open-ended analysis, and then applying it to deliver concrete value. You have a bias towards action and excel on collaborative fast-paced teams.

What Youll Do

  • Develop and analyze data-driven insights from analytics and reporting tools to provide actionable intelligence on the performance of the wholesale battery fleet, identifying trends, patterns, and areas for improvement to inform future strategic trading decisions and optimize business outcomes
  • Foster and communicate the understanding of Autobidder’s performance, analyzing it against competitor benchmarks and simulated scenarios to inform business strategy
  • Define and report on clear key performance indicators (KPIs), and contribute ideas for improving field performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of algorithm engineers and software engineers to automate reporting tools and processes, ensuring seamless scalability and efficiency
  • Structure batch experiments through our proprietary simulation platform and conduct forensic analysis of outputs to explain performance and identify opportunities for algorithmic improvements
  • Participate in on-call rotations for Autobidder market operations
  • Facilitate and lead regular meetings with internal stakeholders, customers, and external organizations to drive collaborative understanding and alignment on battery fleet performance metrics and strategies

What Youll Bring

  • Proficiency in Python with the ability to develop, modify, and run analytical tools to extract insights from data
  • Professional experience in energy-related commodity trading or electricity market research
  • Degree in Economics, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Exceptional data management skills, with a proven ability to work with large datasets, organize logically and efficiently, and extract actionable insights
  • Proven professional experience with simulation techniques to evaluate, develop, and refine key performance indicators (KPIs), providing actionable insights that drive informed investment and trading decisions
  • Track record of positively impacting investment or trading decisions through your own market analysis and insights
  • Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to accuracy, ensuring data integrity and reliability
  • Excellent communication, both written and interpersonal, effectively conveying complex findings and results to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and produce and coordinate time-sensitive deliverables
  • Experience with both energy and ancillary service products as well as with stationary storage is preferred

Expected Compensation

$104,000 – $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
