Position Overview

As a Solar Electrician at GPT Renewables, you will play a critical role in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on various structures, including ground mounts and rooftops. Your expertise in electrical systems will ensure that these solar installations comply with site assessments, schematics, and safety standards. This position demands advanced skills in electrical troubleshooting, wiring, and the integration of solar components with existing electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate hand tools (i.e., crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (i.e., drills, impact wrenches) to install PV systems per codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Apply weather sealing to arrays, buildings, or support mechanisms.
  • Install, connect, and troubleshoot wiring, electrical panels, inverters, and other electrical components associated with solar PV systems.
  • Conduct electrical testing and inspections to ensure all installations meet safety and performance standards, including voltage checks, grounding, and insulation resistance testing.
  • Identify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays for efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenance.
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in PV system installation or materials.
  • Install required labels on solar system components and hardware.
  • Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency.
  • Install active solar systems, including solar collectors, concentrators, pumps, or fans.
  • Activate and commission photovoltaic (PV) systems to verify system functionality, performance, and adherence to design specifications.
  • Lift, carry, and handle building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.
  • Perform various routine tasks such as digging, spreading, and leveling dirt and gravel using hand tools.
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety, using stop work authority if necessary to resolve any issues.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to your supervisor; participate in investigations as needed.
  • Participate in pre-job work planning and safety discussions. Identify and mitigate safety hazards.
  • Follow lockout/tag-out procedures and attend site-specific training.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to helpers and laborers.
  • Produce quality work, meeting all requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Inspect and ensure compliance with contract plans and industry standards, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Observe the functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Utilize safety stop work authority as needed.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 years of experience working as a Solar Electrician, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a construction setting.
  • Knowledge of the Solar Photovoltaic construction craft, including the assembly, installation, wiring, and maintenance of solar PV systems for ground or roof installations.
  • Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals related to PV systems and electrical components.
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements as they pertain to solar PV systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical components, including inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications and visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • OSHA 10/30 Construction certification a plus
