Role: Solar Drafter
***Remote Role Must be Based in California***
As a Solar Drafter, you will transform initial solar PV system concepts into fully detailed, construction-ready designs. You will work on a variety of residential and commercial solar projects, maintaining a steady pipeline of diverse designs. You will collaborate with Sales Consultants, AHJs, LPCs, and customers to create efficient, customer-focused solutions while adhering to standard practices. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, creativity, and effective communication.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering efforts for residential and commercial solar projects.
- Verify initial system layouts and gear locations specified by sales personnel.
- Complete system designs for PV projects, including site plans, mechanical racking and attachment plans, single-line electrical drawings, BOS location specifications, interconnection details, and labeling.
- Provide streamlined project information and detailed bills of materials to procurement managers.
- Support operations, service, and sales departments with engineering expertise as needed.
- Understand optimal design applications and limitations of standard products and evaluate alternate products.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
- At least 1 year of design or engineering experience related to renewable energy is preferred.
- Additional experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is a plus.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory.
- Competence in PVSyst and Helioscope is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE), or a related discipline is preferred.
- Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices.
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Willingness to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
