We are a leader in the Renewable Energy (Solar) industry. We are seeking a Senior SCADA Automation Engineer to join our growing team. If you have direct SCADA/Controls experience in the renewable energy industry, we want to speak with you.
This is a remote opportunity with approximately 25% travel.
Description
The Senior SCADA Engineer is responsible for leading technical design for the SCADA engineering group for all BRP-assigned projects. This role will also act as an Owner’s Engineer for projects produced by contractors. The Senior SCADA Engineer is responsible for SCADA engineering designs, SCADA engineering estimates, communication network architecture, and relevant drawings development.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the preparation and review of Functional Design Specifications based on customer requirements.
- Lead the design of power system automation control logics for PV Solar, Substation, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- Lead the development and programming of the automation controller settings, historian, and HMI screens.
- Author and review Functional Test requirements, Factory Acceptance Test requirements, Site Acceptance Test requirements, and Commissioning Plan.
- Lead the preparation and maintenance of specifications, checklists, test reports, and deliverables associated with assigned projects.
- Lead the efforts to develop and implement standards for equipment, material, design, and construction requirements for automation architecture.
- Provide oversight and review of the company design processes, procedures, and the use of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software applications to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in the station design process.
- Develop budget related to automation design and material procurement for estimators. Aid in cost variance analysis post-project completion to improve estimates.
- Work closely with other engineering groups to coordinate all aspects of SCADA automation engineering.
- Act as Owners Engineer for design work performed by outside consultants. Responsibility includes evaluation of design per scope of work, company standards, and error rate.
- Supervise a team of automation engineers to perform automation engineering tasks.
- Teach expertise and best practices of power system automation engineering and mentor senior engineers.

Job Details
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of directly related SCADA/Controls experience in the renewable energy industry.
- Technical competency in automation logic and control platforms SEL RTAC (required), GE RX3i, PLCs, IEC 61131, and Python.
- Good knowledge of electric power systems, protection, controls design, automation, and communications protocols (DNP, Modbus, SEL protocols, Goose messaging and IEC 61850). Field or project commissioning experience is a strong plus.
- Technical competence in software such as Ignition, Copa Data Zenon, OSIPI, Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, Proficy Machine Ed., Python Scripting, etc.
- Good understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP communications, managed Ethernet switches and firewall functionality.
- Presentation skills and ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical persons in lay-person language and concepts.
- Ability to design and produce design packages for field installation.
- Ability to analyze performance, process improvements, and standardization activities.
