Job Description

About the Company

This 100% remote position is focused on designing and producing engineering documents for 1-20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Tasks will range from initial site feasibility analysis, detailed equipment specifications, the construction permitting process, construction/commissioning oversight, and verifying conformance with all design documents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist as needed on the design of commercial and industrial scale solar PV and BESS projects, focusing on electrical engineering and equipment layouts/specifications.
  • Additional duties include the physical architecture design for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems operating on local plant area networks with remote gateway capabilities.
  • Produce engineering plans and details utilizing AutoCAD design software.
  • Engineering plan sets to include equipment layouts, electrical diagrams, equipment elevations, grounding details, equipment labeling, telecommunication block diagrams, and all necessary details to facilitate efficient construction.
  • Coordinate with the interdisciplinary design team to create cohesive site designs that incorporate design elements from civil, electrical, structural, and mechanical engineers, landscape architects, and other subcontractors involved with the projects.
  • Review the work of others for quality control and completeness.
  • Review and interpret construction standards and specifications to ensure designs comply.
  • Ensure designs follow all local, state, federal, and utility standards.
  • Work with client technical representatives to document and deliver design changes as requested.
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, and arc flash studies using ETAP.
  • Assist in the project management of complex projects; provide timely client communications; coordinate and supervise work by junior personnel, other company divisions, and subcontractors.
  • Read, interpret, and understand all project documentation, such as utility interconnection and permitting requirements, and produce design solutions to meet these requirements.
  • Determine and coordinate studies required for design and permitting purposes. Review reports conducted for projects to ensure compliance and determine impacts on the system design.
  • Create, organize, and maintain documents associated with the project’s design basis throughout the project life cycle; consider key project risks.
  • Prepare proposals, including the scope of services, schedule, budget, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of national codes and standards as applied to renewable energy system projects.
  • Meet with Agency officials and project stakeholders to explain and/or collaborate on the design.
  • Travel to project sites and stakeholder meetings as needed around the country.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible work experience in solar PV engineering design with experience in power and SCADA systems.
  • Electrical engineering experience.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • ETAP experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure with experience reviewing and stamping plans as the engineer of record.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the National Electrical Safety Code.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Construction experience (real-world applications, takeoffs, RFIs, submittals, etc.).
