Job Description

As the Senior Director of Development, you will play a critical role in building pipeline, overseeing Joint Development agreements and partner relationships, researching and managing market entry, presenting to Investment Committee, and supporting financial and M&A closings. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the greenfield siting team and relationships with external vendors, and Joint Development partners to ensure the successful execution of solar energy plant development projects. This position requires a deep understanding of the solar energy industry, project management expertise, and strong leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greenfield Siting Pipeline Growth:
    • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize solar energy project siting opportunities.
    • Drive land negotiations and execution of project leases and/or purchase and sale agreements.
    • Research new markets and present them to the Investment Committee.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess project feasibility, permitting, grid interconnection, and environmental impact.
    • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of solar energy projects, ensuring a steady flow of projects for development.
    • Develop comprehensive project plans, budgets, and schedules to guide the development process.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as engineering, finance, legal, and regulatory, to ensure alignment and smooth project execution.
    • Manage relationships with external partners, contractors, and vendors involved in Development and Joint Development.
    • Create and manage greenfield siting strategy and goals.
    • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
    • Maintain a siting pipeline and JDA project level reporting system to report accurately and timely on pipeline status and risks internally and to external stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with M&A, finance and legal teams to support the financial closing of projects, including due diligence, contract negotiation, and documentation.
    • Create and manage external relationships with developers to add early stage projects to the pipeline.
  • Team Management and Leadership:
    • Build and Lead Greenfield Siting and GIS team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment, promoting positive teamwork, and knowledge sharing.
    • Set performance objectives, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide professional development opportunities for team members.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, business, or renewable energy or commensurate experience.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in solar energy Development, with a strong understanding of the end-to-end development process in PJM, NYISO, and ISONE.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and delivering large-scale solar energy projects, including origination, permitting, interconnection, and financial closing.
  • Strong financial acumen and familiarity with project finance concepts, financial modeling, and investment analysis.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of effectively managing teams and driving project success.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and manage relationships with regulatory authorities.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Knowledge of environmental and sustainability principles related to solar energy projects.

Travel

CleanChoice Energy is a remote-first work environment and this position is work from home with up to 50% travel.
