Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer

💰 Salary: $125,000-$145,000

The Senior Controls Design Engineer is a crucial member of the engineering and design team, tasked with developing and implementing engineered solutions. This role will be primarily based in the Vermont office, with necessary travel to customer project sites for system installation and commissioning phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control System Design and Commissioning: Develop, program, and commission control systems for grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Communication Datapoint Lists: Create and define communication datapoint lists for customer and SCADA interfaces.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to translate their requirements into detailed project specification documents, clearly outlining scope and deliverables.
  • Programming: Program PLC and RTAC logic controllers using IEC 61131 ST, FBD, and LD.
  • Troubleshooting and Resolution: Diagnose and resolve issues with electrical, controls, and AC/DC inverter power systems, coordinating modifications or corrective actions with engineering and production teams.
  • Testing: Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plans at our Waterbury, VT production facility and perform On-Site Acceptance Testing (OSAT) at customer sites.
  • Design Review: Assist in the design and review of electrical/controls design drawings and equipment lists.
  • Standardization: Help standardize logic modules and data structures, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and coding standardization.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in engineering, with a focus on controls, electrical, or software engineering preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in PLC design and programming.
  • Skills: Experience with analog and digital PLC I/O circuit design. Knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus/TCP and/or DNP3 is advantageous.
  • Technical Abilities: Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • CAD Drafting: Experience with CAD drafting, preferably using SOLIDWORKS, is a plus.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Experience with electrical power systems, grid-scale inverters, or BESS is highly desirable.
