Summary:

The Sales Engineer (SE) has a broad area of activity and will follow the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) system through project initiation and RFP, sizing, optimization, and contracting. The Sales Engineer may also be asked to help support commissioning and operations life cycle. SEs work closely with Powin’s product engineers and provide varying levels of support from Sales through to Operations depending upon the product maturity and customer’s familiarity with storage systems.

Job Details:

  • Be well versed in use-case, energy management system, safety, integration, certification, and networking principles.
  • Work with Powin sales leads, bid team, and the customer to provide information and education on BESS.
  • Create high-level battery energy storage project designs that Powin will bid to customers:
  • Review technical requirements for the project.
  • Capture and document the operating requirements for the project.
  • Select appropriate battery configuration and power conversion equipment.
  • Calculate required equipment quantities to satisfy all project requirements seeking cost minimization.
  • Identify and document options and any additional costs to support the project.
  • Work with Powin Project Engineers and Product teams to address any non-standard or special requirements.
  • Work with the Project Management Organization and Logistics team to fully develop the timeline, costs, and any constraints of the solution and communicate to the sales lead and customer.
  • Generate Single Line Diagram of project from Visio template.
  • Generate physical site layout drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Thoroughly complete customer technical RFI packages.
  • Ensure division of responsibility and Powin Scope of Work clearly defined with appropriate caveats in place to minimize Powin exposure to cost overruns.
  • Customer engagement:
    • Engage with customer’s technical personnel to align on project requirements.
    • Conduct persuasive technical presentations on Powin’s hardware, software, and technical capabilities.
    • Provide overview of Powin technical proposals and answer questions.
    • Act as “first line of defense” on pre-sales technical inquiries (with Powin ENG support).
    • Maintain a high standard of responsiveness and customer support.
  • Contracting Support:
    • Provide technical support to the contracting team to ensure timely and favorable contracting terms.
  • Project Execution handoff:
    • Align with the Project team before project award to ensure the project is executable and the cost basis captures Powin’s full commitment.
    • Formally document special requirements to ensure Powin deliverables are clear to the Project Execution and tracked.
    • Work to resolve any gaps identified in the proposed solution and work with the Product Management and Product Engineering teams to fully specify the requirements to resolve the gap.
  • Manage workload in a way that ensures customer timelines are met in the correct priority order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science or other 4-year technical degree, ideally in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering (or equivalent).
    • Minimum 4-6 years of systems design and field operations experience in BESS, power systems, or PV solar system projects, or equivalent experience.
    • Knowledge of and experience with power conversion systems.
    • Familiarity with SCADA, Modbus, and networking applications.
    • Ability to create system designs, single lines, and block diagrams using AutoCAD or Visio/Smart Draw.
    • Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
    • Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to adapt style and vocabulary to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
    • Effective presentation skills required, both in the creation and delivery of presentation materials.
    • Proven track record of creating and sustaining positive interpersonal relationships.
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully overcome the challenges and uncertainties of a fast-paced and rapidly growing company.
    • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.

    Compensation for this position is commensurate with location, experience and relevant skills. The national Average Base Salary Range is $100,000 – $136,000. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on company and personal performance.
