We are hiring a Site Safety Manager to support our client’s solar construction project in Queens, NY. In this critical role, you will be responsible to represent the Project Owner while onsite and ensure compliance with all project requirements and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), State and Federal laws during the construction and commissioning associated with the delivery of project. The Site Safety Manager will have broad knowledge of construction safety. This is a full-time (50 hours/week), limited-term role for the duration of 12 months, renewable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Site Safety Manager will represent and act as the “eyes and ears” for project Owner on all HSE matters, having the authority and the responsibility to maintain, supervise, and if necessary, stop, activity on the Project if they have HSE concerns. The role requires boots-on-the-ground capabilities and ability to communicate with workers at all levels.
- Build a strong safety culture, promoting confidence, trust, hazard identification and mutual respect between all members of the Project Team.
- Ensure Contractor and subcontractors understand fully their duties, HSE expectations and obligations, training and reporting to achieve the Client’s objectives.
- Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of field data related to the safe performance of construction work activities from all contractors, including man-hours, incidents and accidents.
- Establish a regular HSE meetings, specifying who shall attend, their responsibilities and distributing meeting minutes
- Ensure the seamless execution of this project and maximizing impact on the sustainable energy landscape.
- Serve as the liaison between the developer and project stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and project progress.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are achieved on schedule.
- Address stakeholder inquiries, concerns, and provide regular updates on project status.
- Monitor project performance, budget adherence, and timelines.
- Facilitate transparent communication between the developer and key stakeholders.
- Champion a strong safety culture across the site and maximize personnel involvement in Safety related activities.
- Provide daily observations of on-site safety practices.
- Provide timely, high quality Safety technical support.
- Carry out regular workplace inspections to monitor compliance with site rules, procedures, etc.
- Coordinate the completion of job safety analyses, risk assessments and pre-task plans.
- Prepare and submit local, State, and internal reports as needed.
- Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure that they are effective, and that they identify and resolve root causes. Lead investigations into serious adverse events.
- Monitor and analyze Safety performance and initiate action to support or correct trends.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience in renewable energy project management, particularly in solar energy and battery storage.
- 10+ years’ experience in construction safety on power, utility, civil projects; experience in solar or renewable construction projects is a plus.
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science preferred or relevant years of experience in place of a degree. Master’s degree is a plus.
- A professional qualification such as CSP, CIH, CHST, OSHT, and other accredited professional designations is preferred.
- 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent, preferably within last 5 years. OSHA 500/501 desirable.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations regarding 29 CFR 1904, 1910 & 1926 methods and New York.
- Comprehensive understanding of the design & construction process.
- Strong leadership and communication skills; can independently project manage with little to no oversight.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building lasting relationships with project stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
- Familiarity with solar energy and battery storage technologies, industry trends, and sustainability objectives.
- Can handle client relationships in all forms of communication (written, verbal, presenting, etc.) and knows when to escalate to leadership.
- Basic MS (Word, Excel, Project, etc.) computing skills, email, etc.
- Ability to lift 25lbs.
- Ability to work up to 12-hour days.
- Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery, and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License and reliable mode of transportation.
- Experience of solar and battery energy storage projects highly desirable but not absolutely essential.
- Experience with the following is a plus: Excavations/Trenching; Scaffolding; Fall Protection; Crane lifts, Electrical installations, Hazardous Energy; Confined Space Entry; Health Hazard Recognition, Evaluation and Control of Chemical, Physical and Biological Agents; PPE and Clothing to include selection, use and maintenance.
