Job Description

About the Role:

To increase our ability to serve our expanding community partnerships, we are seeking a driven Project Manager who shares our love of equitable access to clean energy, inclusive design practices, and shaking up the structural racism of our current energy system. In our small team, this role will be responsible for leading tasks related to renewable energy project development, community co-design and the beautiful chaos of a startup. Do you see a problem and love to find a creative and agile solution? We are charting new territory in community led energy development and your quick problem solving skills will be put to the test. This is a hybrid role with a candidate ideally able to work out of our Honolulu office and willing to travel as needed to community meetings. This role will be reporting directly to the CEO.

Job Functions:

  • Manage aspects of renewable energy development process, including: Land due diligence research, soliciting estimates from contractors and vendors, using solar design software, preparing information for financing partners, writing grant and bid proposals, corresponding with the utility, and sharing our progress at community workshops.
  • Support our Community Design Team to both gather information for them to present to our community partners as well as to act on input received from them on development decisions. This function is crucial to making sure our services are responsive to community needs.
  • Share in the administrative tasks of running a small business including certifications, accounting, ordering supplies, and watering office plants.
  • Additional job functions may include financial modeling, engineering tasks, and developing new community partnerships, depending on past experience and future Shake-sponsored professional development.

Desired Skills & Abilities:

  • We meet communities where they are – ideal candidates will be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • While our Community Design Team will handle most of the meeting facilitation, this role will also participate, so a comfort with authentically engaging with community members is needed. When not presenting, strong written communication is a must as well.
  • Ability to share and receive ideas in a collaborative setting with many post-it notes. Confidence in your own creativity is a plus.
  • Competency in equity-driven design and anti-racist planning is a plus. At a minimum, an ability to productively give and receive feedback on biases helps us keep an inclusive workplace and inclusive partnerships.
  • Ability to self-direct, attention to detail, and proclivity for checking things off the to-do list, will absolutely be required. We’ve got an institutional system to huli and there’s no time to delay!
  • Digging for data – Our community partners need data to make decisions in our projects, this role will be responsible for providing that analysis. Excel/Google Sheets knowledge preferred.
