Summary:

The Product Quality Engineer (PQE) plays a key role in developing and maintaining long-term relationships with Powin’s customers by providing them with high quality products and services. As the PQE, you will be responsible for the product repair process, conducting root cause analysis (RCA’s) and developing corrective and preventive actions. You will partner with the SIOP team for the return material authorization (RMA) process. The PQE will also be responsible for standardizing processes, including reporting formats and component testing software tools. Additionally, the PQE will support Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) programming.

Job Details:

  • Contribute to RMA processes related Repair and RCA to standardize and improve the quality of our products, including:
  • i. RMA Processes:
  • i. Address open cases,
  • ii. Plan and execute continuous improvement to the RMA program, documentation, etc.,
  • iii. Maintain RMA records pertaining to failure analysis and product quality,
  • iv. Standardize and maintain reporting format:
  • i. Review and complete assessment / follow up tasks of RMA’s requiring failure analysis and product quality including analysis, interpretation and presentation of data to inform quality, manufacturing, and engineering decisions
  • ii. Repair Processes:
    • i. Repair and conduct functional testing documentation from NPI and China teams
    • ii. Create repair process, conduct functional tests and functional test documentation in conjunction with relevant teams
    • iii. Create and maintain accurate records of failure modes, effects, and rates
    • iv. Development and qualification of third-party repair suppliers
  • iii. RCA Processes:
    • i. Coordinate between Field Services, ROC, Project Success, and other departments and stakeholders,
    • ii. Failure data reporting,
    • iii. Navigate existing workflows and structures,
    • iv. Create a tracking dashboard to request field recalls, including information on
    • i. Safety
    • ii. Quality
    • iii. Manufacturing Rework
    • iv. RCAs
  • Create and maintain EMS Programming, to support the product from an electrical manufacturing services standpoint, including:
    • i. Determine commissioning and customer needs, and determine if further EMS configuration is needed
    • ii. Create a plan for EMS needs, and work instructions for common configurations
    • iii. Support various EMS functions as needed for Program management and/or software teams
    • iv. Standardize component testing software tools. Specifically, standardize Battery Pack Controller (BPC) and Software Configuration (SC) testing applications between factory, lab, and field to decide which users need which functionalities (i.e. limit factory functionality). Then implement comparable, versioned software for user use.
  • Lead RCA, Failure Analysis (FA), repairs, and other product quality improvement initiatives
  • Develop collaborative problem-solving processes, reporting structures and methodologies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
    • 3+ years professional experience in quality engineering or a related role
    • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF16949 or similar quality management system
    • Experience with quality tools and methods, including statistical process control (SPC), Six Sigma, design of experiments (DOE), etc.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with aptitude to learn new software as needed
    • Ability to analyze very large data sets to draw conclusions
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
    • Self-motivated, driven, and positive attitude
    • Detail oriented, with the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment, often across multiple time zones
    • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand 25-50% and work at a computer / desk 50-75%
    • Master’s degree in Engineering, Quality or related field preferred
    • Certification in quality engineering or management, such as CQE, CQA, or CRE preferred
    • Leadership experience in quality engineering or a related role preferred
    • Experience in the aerospace or automotive industry preferred
