Job Description
A postdoctoral position is available in NRELs Materials, Chemical and Computational Science Directorate on research efforts in metal halide perovskite photovoltaic technologies including tandems. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal up to three years.

This position will focus on durability and packaging of perovskite-based tandem solar cells and modules. Responsibilities will include developing methods for packaging, conducting accelerated stress tests on samples and performing post-mortem root-cause analysis to understand the mechanisms for failure. A background in materials characterization techniques (SEM, XPS, XRD etc.) is desirable. Some background in reliability testing of PV devices is desirable but not required.

The collaborative environment requires a candidate who can interface with researchers of different disciplines and learn topics outside their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to communicate their results to internal stakeholders and in more traditional journal publications, and conference presentations. In general, candidates should have a demonstrated track record of success in technical activities associated with automation and be comfortable formulating value proposition automation use cases in a technologically relevant way while addressing key science questions to challenging problems as part of a team effort. The candidate will be required to work closely with the Environment, Health, & Safety team to follow safe work procedures, as well as to handle waste properly and keep a clean, well-organized work environment.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Experience with metal halide perovskite material and devices. Materials characterization (SEM, XPS, XRD, etc.).
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results within planned timelines.
  • Strong safety record and ability to follow complex standard operating procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in materials characterization techniques (SEM, XPS, XRD etc.).

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Postdoctoral Researcher / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 – $120,800

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
