Position Summary
The Performance Engineer is part of a small and mighty engineering team developing enhanced aeroderivative gas turbines for power production. These machines enable renewable energy sources to fit well into the power grid by responding quickly when the wind and sun aren’t available. This position develops gas turbine performance models and predictions, component boundary conditions such as temperatures, and developing transfer functions for life prediction and damage accumulation. This position also develops innovative new combustion fuel mixers for optimal premixing, aerothermal models, conjugate heat transfer, computational fluid mechanics and new technology development. Additional accountabilities include planning and executing aero-derivative gas turbine product definition and sustaining engineering support.
Position Responsibilities
- Plans and executes performance upgrade projects.
- Provides performance predictive models, combustion control algorithms, project priorities including liaison and coordination of the project with other departments and functions.
- Creates and maintains compliance with engineering processes, standards, and systems.
- Executes new part/component product definitions and design.
- Coordinates and manages work scope with third party engineering service providers.
- Maintains and controls changes to product and model definitions: parts, sub-assemblies, components, assemblies, modules, and complete engine systems.
- Reviews and approves designs, technical data, and design changes for scope of accountabilities.
- Uses analytical tools to confirm initial designs and design modifications.
- Executes and/or reviews CAD model product definitions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Graduate Degree strongly preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in aerospace or industrial gas turbine engine thermodynamic cycle performance analysis and gas turbine functional operation.
- Applied knowledge and experience in gas turbine systems and power plant designs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Must read, write and speak fluent English.
- US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
- Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Applied knowledge and experience in one or more of the following aerothermal and/or mechanical design areas: airfoils, combustion, cases, frames, structures, disks, and/or shafts.
- Understands and has applied the fundamentals of project management.
- Leadership, influencing, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective organizational and analytical skills.
- Proficient with the suite of MS Office applications.
- Applied knowledge and experience using engineering tools such PDM, ANSYS, CFX, COMSOL, or Autodesk CFD are preferred.
- Understanding the functions and critical to quality (CTQs) characteristics of gas turbine components.
