Our client is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Manager of Interconnection and Transmission. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing new and existing interconnection and transmission queue positions, helping to advance the company’s growth by converting over 5GW of pipeline projects into financially viable investments each year. You will be responsible for assessing the interconnection and transmission feasibility of potential new storage and generation projects, and providing valuable insights to support our expansion goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate internal and external technical teams in preparing and submitting interconnection applications, including developing 10% design materials and addressing any deficiencies within the timelines specified by the Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs).
- Model financial commitments for projects and manage associated deliverables using internal databases.
- Clearly communicate the interconnection process, including timelines, to ensure stakeholders are informed about the progress and requirements for projects across different regions.
- Review system impact studies and relevant cluster studies, providing strategic feedback to management to support investment decisions on economically viable projects.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in generation interconnection studies or transmission system planning.
- Strong project management skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively about project timelines and financial outcomes.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% to meet with corporate management, attend conferences, and participate in stakeholder meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and understanding of the Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT).
- Familiarity with WECC, PJM, ERCOT, CAISO and/or SERC Planning Models.
- Proven experience in preparing application materials for generator interconnections within various RTOs and independent transmission providers.
- Proficiency with software tools such as PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, CAPE, PSCAD, and Python programming.
- Knowledge of RTO governance structures and experience in participating in stakeholder collaborative processes.
