As a Design Professional Claims Handler, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving AXA XL’s claims for the Design Professional team. You will work closely with your manager and fellow Claims Handlers to drive files to resolution and will interact and collaborate frequently with Regional Practice Leaders and the Underwriting team. Together, you will be tasked with achieving the best possible outcomes for AXA XL and its clients by resolving and settling claims proactively.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Managing assigned claims across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Providing thoughtful and comprehensive coverage analysis on all new matters and acting as a resource to our underwriting team for wording and account reviews.
  • Partnering with internal and external counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies for claims in litigation.
  • Evaluating settlement value and negotiating claims and litigated matters within authority as well as participating in mediations and settlement conferences. Consistently employing strategic litigation management skills throughout the life of all claims.
  • Producing internal reporting and ensuring that reserves are set according to best practice guidelines.
  • Analyzing claim trends and establishing, adjusting, or recommending reserves.
  • Identifying and implementing process enhancements to effectively provide timely and fair claims resolution through leveraging available resources, technology and continuing education, training and vendor management.
  • Coordinating and managing communications with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, external vendors, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Maintaining a high-quality relationship with policyholders and agents by maintaining frequent contact and being responsive to their needs. Promptly and thoroughly reviewing contracts as requested by policyholders and agents.
  • Taking ownership of the account-specific auditing and record keeping processes, developing and executing upon effective audit protocols. Ensuring all financial transactions are properly tracked and maintaining easily accessible reports related to all facets of claim handling.
  • Taking an active role in the development of educational material and loss prevention measures for policyholders and agents. Facilitating the delivery of this material through public speaking engagements and individual consultation.
  • Assisting underwriters with policy drafting initiatives, as well as new business and renewal meetings.
  • Identifying, monitoring and reporting on emerging liability and coverage trends.
  • Active and frequent participation in marketing and promotional activities with some component of public speaking.
  • Assist management with the creation and monitoring of various statistical and trend reports as needed. Assist with staff training and coverage review. Assist with monitoring staff goals and performance measures, use of performance metrics, review process (interim and year-end), and addressing performance issues timely. Assist with succession planning. Assist with Human Resources issues, including employee performance reviews and timely handling of employee exceptions. Respond timely to all requests regarding personnel, and position information, including authority levels and internal audits.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Broad Professional Liability claims experience: Advanced experience managing Professional Liability claims as a Claims Handler or Defense Counsel. Experience with high exposure and complex claims. Demonstrated experience negotiating and settling complex claim files.
  • Effective communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and negotiation skills. Able to communicate and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels of sophistication.
  • Collaborative approach: Develop productive working relationships with insured, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters and legal counsel. Seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible. Capable of working and collaborating with a virtual team.
  • Ethics: Handle responsibilities with integrity and the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Passion for results: Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs. Think quickly and prioritize multiple work streams without sacrificing quality. Act with a sense of urgency.
  • Intellectual curiosity: Willing to ask questions and explore new ideas. Eager to learn and focused on continuously improving technical skills.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 92,500-$182,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individuals skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues pay.
