CDTi is looking for a second shift Lab Technician who will be responsible for carrying out catalyst/material testing and be responsible for accurate and timely laboratory analysis of samples to support external and internal customers using modern analytical instrumentation including (but not limited to) Synthetic Gas Flow Reactors, XRF, Gas Chromatography, etc. Responsibilities will also include complying with basic Good Laboratory Practices including maintaining workplace cleanliness, organization, and pro-actively contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.

Essential:

  • Operation of experiments and measurement of physical properties of chemical materials.
  • Operation of specialized equipment such as XRF, bench reactors, furnaces and related.
  • Data Collection, organization, filing, synthesis and analysis. Results must be organized, maintained, and communicated effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Powder process lab activities such as mixing metal solution, mixing powder, drying, calcination, sizing.
  • Interface with internal customer to determine the appropriate test protocols for samples.
  • Run quality testing on the test system to ensure production of quality results.
  • Maintain systems to maximize equipment up time.

  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Computer Skills — Computer proficiency is necessary. The majority of result reporting is handled via computer. Ability to collect, organize, analyze and report on data and findings. MS Excel and other office tools required.

  • Reading Comprehension — Operational procedures and work instructions are in written (English) form. The candidate should be comfortable reading and updating these documents when needed.
  • Attention to Detail — Operation of test systems requires careful and accurate completion of multiple process steps and thorough analysis of the resultant outputs. Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Flexibility — Flexibility to support testing needs on the weekend or covering an alternate shift is important.
  • Professional Skills – Excellent communication skills and the ability to work on multi-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to efficiently conduct multiple projects concurrently.

Best Practices:

  • Complete scheduled testing based on the direction of the characterization Manager and Engineers.
  • Communicate with QC and Characterization staff to understand and plan for timing of sample availability.
  • Perform testing following SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean workplace by cleaning up immediately after each operation.

Safety and Environmental:

  • Ensure that proper PPE is worn at all times when performing job duties.
  • Handle all laboratory chemicals with appropriate care.
  • Dispose of all waste and reclaim materials appropriately.
  • Follow the requirements described in the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Education/ Experience

  • High School diploma and or AA degree in Chemistry, or related work experience preferred.
  • 0-2 years experience preferred
