Job Description

Alsym Energy is seeking a Lab Automation Specialist with expertise in high-throughput (HT) material discovery techniques and a passion for advancing battery research through innovative automation solutions. This role is pivotal in enhancing our research capabilities, allowing us to rapidly test, and iterate on new materials with unprecedented speed and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement automation systems for HT material evaluation and testing processes specific to battery research.
  • Work closely with research scientists and engineers to understand experimental workflows and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and maintain software and control systems for automated laboratory equipment, ensuring integration with our data management systems.
  • Train research staff on the operation of automated systems and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in lab automation technology and HT experimentation methods, evaluating new tools and technologies for potential implementation.
  • Collaborate with the IT and data science teams to ensure seamless data capture, management, and analysis from automated experiments.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and SOPs for HT experimentation and lab automation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and deploying automation solutions in research or laboratory environments, ideally within the chemistry or battery research fields, with a minimum of two years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for automation and robotics control (e.g., Python, LabVIEW).
  • In-depth knowledge of high-throughput experimentation techniques and equipment relevant to chemistry and battery testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with data acquisition systems and integration with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of material science or battery technology is a significant plus.
  • Prior experience in a research and development setting, particularly in the energy storage or materials science fields.
