Position Summary

The Director of Meetings & Events is responsible for managing events and ensuring deadlines and budgets are adhered to while collaborating with the events team to design and execute event programs. The Director of Meetings & Events reports to the SVP, Content and Strategy.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization’s event strategy, planning, development, and execution in collaboration with SEIA’s leadership team.
  • Oversee logistics and execution for all Premiere SEIA events and meetings (and other SEIA events and meetings as designated), supervising logistics, marketing, education, and sponsorship. Drive event production timelines and lead consistent internal meetings. Manage onsite meeting and event logistics with vendors and provide excellent customer service to attendees.
  • Oversee logistics and execution for all SEIA activities associated with RE+ events and meetings. Coordinate timelines across multiple event schedules, support the Meetings & Events Manager as needed, and track budgets and expenses.
  • Oversee planning and execution of quarterly SEIA Board of Directors Meetings and related activities in concert with the Director of Executive Events & Board Liaison. Tasks include but are not limited to locating and contracting meetings and hotel space, planning and executing dinners and happy hours, and communicating directly with all sponsors, partners, vendors, and venues. Serves as onsite contact and support.
  • Execute SEIA’s meetings and events sponsorship portfolio, collaborating directly with the SEIA membership team to identify, create, secure and administrate meetings and events sponsorship packages. Act as main sponsorship contact once the package has been sold, communicating directly with the sponsor to fulfill the agreement.
  • Execute all SEIA meeting and event-related contracts, agreements, and payments, including but not limited to event technology, vendors, and venues. Ensuring all moving pieces of events are on time and on budget per contract agreements.
  • Assist in the creation and management of the SEIA events budget. Work directly with the Senior Vice President of Content & Strategy and SEIA’s finance team to meet budget requirements and reach revenue goals. Identify new sources of revenue and methods to efficiently utilize SEIA’s budget.
  • Ability to consistently work evenings and weekends as meetings and events are scheduled.
  • This position oversees a team of three: Sr. Manager, Events & Board Liaison, Manager of Meetings & Events, and Meetings & Events Coordinator.

Requirements:

Professional Experience, Education & Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6-8 years of professional experience in managing event planning and development
  • 2 years’s experience in supervising a team and managing budgets.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and event management platforms
  • High sense of urgency and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service mentality with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor or team member in collaborative environments.
  • Strong communication skills, oral, written, and listening
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills and the ability to think independently and take the initiative.

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in headquarters in Washington, DC.
  • SEIA employees in the Washington, D.C. region follow a hybrid remote and in-person office model. Employees work 3 days a week in an office environment and as needed when there are special events or meetings but otherwise can be remote
  • Travel is required for this role.

Compensation Range

$120,000 to $125,000 annually, based on experience and an excellent benefits package.
