The Senior Product Engineer is the lead engineer in the area of new battery development from concept stage, design and validation, and transition to production. Serves both as the technical lead and overall project manager interacting with suppliers, internal groups, and customer’s various entities during development phase of a new project. Contributes to the improvement of engineering production capabilities, standardization, cost reduction, and safe working conditions. Provide leadership for all employees. Meet the regulatory and company requirements for safety and environmental. Must follow the “Golden Rules” of safety. Provide leadership to ensure SES observations and safety incident investigations are completed timely.
Requirements:
- Carry out communication exchanges with customer to ensure the intended design meets the customer’s needs.
- Design new batteries and/of uplift existing batteries to meet customer needs.
- Identify best practice and approach to assemble battery.
- Develop specification and performance requirements for new battery design.
- Identify new vendors and suppliers for new tooling and components.
- Develop assembly prints and instructions for new prototype.
- Responsible for inspection, assembly of batteries and subassemblies as needed, to meet program requirements.
- Review documentation and implement necessary changes.
- File, organize and oversee maintenance of documentation.
- Finalize assembly instruction, specifications, and bill of materials.
- Responsible for mechanical and electrical qualification testing (setup, data collection, test summary) to certify product.
- Coordinate with production departments to incorporate new battery design into existing systems and procedures.
- Lead industrialization stage optimization activities to improve the mass production of the design.
- Investigates new methods and battery assembly techniques to enhance product performance and improve means of design and production.
- Directly supervise Model shop and document control technicians.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with the ability to design products that achieve both performance requirements and profitability.
Responsibilities:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical degree.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design of small to medium size electromechanical devices similar to batteries such as automotive, appliances, medical devices, and telecommunications (radios, IoT, sensors, locators).
- Relevant project management experience.
- Experience in design and assembly of components including injection molded and machined plastics components, wiring harnesses, small component welding, and electronic protection devices and connectors.
- Supervisory experience required of technical level staff.
- Must be able to lead a team to successful complete the mission.
- Ability to understand and test products against various safety and performance standards such as various Military MIL-PRF Standards, IEC and UL testing, and UN transportation.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with the ability to design products that achieve both performance requirements and profitability.
- Must be able to work in the United States for any employer.
