Summary:

The mission of Powin’s Data team is to use data and analytics to enhance operational effectiveness, promote strategic decision-making, and improve asset performance. On behalf of our stakeholders, we build and maintain data products that provide performance analysis, optimization, anomaly detection, and battery state estimation. Our work is heavily cross-functional, relying on close collaboration between data scientists, software developers, product owners, data engineers, and battery experts. As a Manager of Data Science, you will play a lead role in shaping the strategic direction and structure of the Data team. Your responsibilities will include guiding data product development through planning and coordination, presenting Data team findings to senior leadership, and defining and driving best practices and process improvements for the team.

Job Details:

  • Lead a team of data scientists who build and maintain critical data products for Powin and our customers
  • Prioritize, plan, and drive analytical projects from beginning to end, in collaboration with members of Data team and key partners throughout Powin
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Software teams, as well as senior leadership, to define and plan the Data team roadmap
  • Shape company strategy via clear and compelling presentations of Data team findings to key stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Diligently track and report team velocity, capacity, and other metrics to ensure visibility into Data team progress and resourcing needs
  • Define and implement process improvements to improve team effectiveness
  • Mentor and support team members to further their growth and promote continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least six years of relevant experience in data science, including at least two years of experience managing analytics teams
  • MA/MS degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience and understanding of machine learning and statistical models and methods
  • Experience planning and coordinating large cross-functional projects from beginning to end while meeting deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including an ability to effectively engage and collaborate with teams from engineering, sales, and operations
  • Background in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related technical field
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Atlassian applications (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) is preferred
  • Limited travel requirements
