Job Summary:

Are you curious about cancer pharmacology? Do you want to be part of clinical trials of new anticancer agents and chemoprevention? The UW Carbone Cancer Center is looking for a Client-Based Researcher to process, track, store, and ship collected biological specimens as an essential part of the clinical trials.

The Sample Acquisition Service (SAS) is a core service of the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), part of the Drug Development Core Cancer Pharmacology Laboratory. In this non-patient facing role, you will work directly with our clinical research Disease Oriented Teams (DOT’s) in gathering information and providing service. Within the core you will work with an online database, provide specimen processing and storage at optimal temperatures, ship daily, and coordinate research materials. Additional activities may include making solutions, pipetting, and utilizing other laboratory techniques and equipment. Collections are occasionally made outside of regular hours which will require some flexibility.

Responsibilities:

Designs methodology, conducts data collection and analysis, and prepares reports for client-based research.

  • 5% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
  • 5% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 40% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 10% Reviews and edits research protocols under general supervision
  • 10% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 20% Laboratory Logistics. Tracks inventory levels, kits and shipments. Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree
Area of specialization in Biology, Biochemistry or related field preferred. Relevant professional equivalent experience also considered.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant course work and/or experience in laboratory research techniques is preferred.
  • Attention to detail, communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Will train the right candidate

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
