Overview:
The Civil Engineer I will work under the supervision of a Senior Civil Engineer to perform Wind, Solar, Battery Storage Industry focused civil engineering tasks. This opportunity is best suited for engineers working to become licensed Professional Engineers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn the specialty skills of the Renewable Industry focused Civil Engineering, including but not limited to the following:
Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of civil engineering; from bidding, planning, design, construction, and close out for solar, wind, and battery storage renewable energy projects.
Responsibilities:
- Research and understand local, State, and Federal permitting requirements. Be able to apply restrictions or requirements to the design.
- Prepares for successful installation of large commercial renewable systems from contract inception, and in some instances prior to contract inception as the team evaluates the project viability. This will include a review of reports, opinions, and recommendations crucial for project direction. This may include hydrology/hydraulic studies, due diligence/site analysis reports, engineer’s opinion of probable costs, project schedules, utility computations, etc.
- Supports Estimating by reviewing bid documents and providing feedback on design feasibility, non-standard costs, scheduling impacts.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop site layouts and infrastructure designs for renewable energy projects
- Review civil design packages at various milestones (30%/60%/90%/IFR/IFC) for sound design elements, mitigation of potential risks, and permitting requirements. Ensure all constraints are accommodated for.
- Offer support during construction phase for all civil and SWPPP related items. This would require site visits to trouble shoot problems appropriately.
- Analyze site topography and infrastructure (existing and proposed) to ensure sound stormwater management designs are being incorporated and the company has mitigated any risks appropriately.
- Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with individual State requirements and codes.
- Review and analyze storm water design including but not limited to site development, grading and drainage design, site utilities / tie-ins, erosion control, and road design
- Review Bill of Materials, specifications, cut sheets, permit submission packages, and other project documentation to maintain compliance, on schedule, and budget.
- Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and support staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various renewable projects, modifications, and repairs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of civil engineering experience
- Bachelors degree in related field is required, Masters degree a plus
- SWPPP Inspector certification, or ability to secure in 1-3 months after employment
Required Skills:
- Familiarity with applicable codes and regulations, regulatory processes, and general renewable project lifecycle.
- Knowledge of civil site design, renewable energy systems, and best management practices across various regions of the Country.
- Proficient in MS Office suite, Bluebeam/Adobe, Procore, AutoCAD, databases and other discipline-related design programs.
- Understanding or hydrologic principles, permitting strategies, Best Management Practices, and SWPPP compliance.
- Ability to participate/lead client, engineering, and permitting calls, page turns, and meetings.
- Detail oriented and thorough, with excellent planning, process, and project management skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated people skills, both inside and outside the project team.
- Good time management skills and demonstrated efficiency in providing engineering support on multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, drawings, and documents related to engineering and construction.
