Job Summary

The position is part of the utility of the future (Integrated Planning & Grid Innovation) group, and is responsible to meet NYS Reforming Energy Vision (REV) objectives as they evolve in the New York regulatory environment. This group is expected to evolve consistent with the Distributed System Implementation Plan (DSIP) structure in other NYS utilities to fully integrate REV opportunities and build on its experience for the future. It is envisioned that the PSEG LI Utility of the Future function will grow to support incremental workload associated with development of various aspects of Distributed System Platform (DSP), notably to support various engineering and analytical effort to realize system optimizations associated with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and enabling platforms to provide granular information to the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) interconnection customer. The Integrated Planning & Grid Innovation group conducts detailed power system analysis to conduct specialized studies to enable ways to increase hosting capacity on the system, and develops cost effective solutions using cutting edge technology such as AMI meter data. Also the team works closely with internal and external organizations to implement project to advance distribution system platform. This organization integrates infrastructure planning, innovative/demonstration projects and makes strategic decisions required to move towards the grid of the future. This position offers challenging opportunities and problem solving scenarios where the engineer will be able to incorporate and observe his or her creative ideas come to fruition. This position is part of a team responsible proactively drives the development of Reforming Energy Vision (REV) capabilities and meets REV objectives as they evolve in the New York regulatory environment.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities (include and are not limited to):

  • Responsible for conducting AMI voltage analysis to optimize voltages across LIPA system and integrating the information using GIS and CYME software
  • Perform research on the technology being employed by other utilities or offered in the market to enhance T&D planning practice and platforms.
  • Conduct detailed power system studies and implement solutions in the field to capture real time results.
  • Actively participate with working groups, universities and other utilities to capture the best practices to be employed on T&D system.
  • Oversee and participate in the development of Utility 2.0 filing not limited to collaborating with other organization to develop optimized technical solutions.
  • Successfully lead and align the project consistent with NY Rev initiatives and with latest DPS orders.
  • Analyze and work with internal and third-party vendors to make improvements to the hosting capacity maps.
  • Responsible for working closely with Data Analytics team to implement use cases for T&D system improvement utilizing the AMI metered data.
  • Ensure the execution of Utility 2.0 deliverables in timely manner by collaborating with internal and external groups.
  • Utilize logical reasoning and research upon power system concepts to analyze results of the simulations, tools, and pilots being conducted on the LIPA grid.
  • Assess and implement software/tools that supports the integration of DER onto LIPA grid.
  • Support rate case submittal to Public Service Commission in reference to Utility 2.0 filings.
  • Develop innovative ideas and explore tools which will incorporate both power system technical and economic concepts that can be employed in planning process.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret large sets of power system data to develop theory/conclusions.
  • Run power load flow studies and develop tools/models to conduct specialized studies.
  • As an employee of PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and your regular work schedule. You may also be required to work in an alternate location.


Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum of 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizing skills; adaptable and results-oriented
  • Possess leadership skills, professionalism and customer/client focus
  • As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. drivers license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
