Job Description

Job Summary:

This position prepares research animal feed at a complex feed mill operation located at the UW Arlington Agricultural Research Station, delivers the feed to animal units and fills in on the farm crew as time permits. This position will review feed orders, quality control, inventory management, ration sequencing, feed mixing, feed delivery, and assuring SOP procedures are followed by all. The feed mill is an animal research and instructional facility that provides approximately 4,000 tons of feed per year for animals within the UW College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and UW Animal Health and Biomedical Sciences. Accurate record keeping is required for feed orders, ingredients, and medication use. This position will provide a variety of technical support and take action in adjusting equipment to changing conditions.

This position shall observe all AAALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care) standards (international animal use and care guidelines) and FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) guidelines including any and all statutes and governmental regulations which bear upon animal care and use including, but not limited to, the prevailing standards of sanitation, health, labor and safety. This position must follow the particular requirements of agricultural research and teaching essential for an effective institutional program of agricultural animal care and use.

Responsibilities:

Operates basic or complex equipment, applies pesticides, and performs physical labor to maintain institutional agriculture in support of institutional goals.

  • 60% Operates, cleans, and repairs basic and complex agricultural machines and equipment to ensure safety and operable functionality and to adhere to established rules, policies, and regulations
  • 10% Maintains organization of designated facilities and associated supplies, notifies appropriate entities of damaged materials or the need for supply replenishment
  • 10% Documents completion of duties according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Operates vehicles to deliver and receive freight and inspects, loads, and
    unloads materials to ensure safe and efficient transport
  • 10% Operates machinery which conveys, grinds, crushes, mixes, and pelletizes

CDL – Commercial Drivers License
Obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of employment

Work Schedule:

  • Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm daily.
  • Four 10-hour days is an option. Occasional extra hours during the week, weekends, and holidays as needed.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $22.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated salary range for this position is $22.00 – $28.00 per hour. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

  • Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm daily.

  • Will be required to regularly lift up to 60 lbs. and climb heights to 70 ft.
  • Must be able to work periodically in confined spaces and in dusty/moldy conditions (with proper Personal Protective Equipment).
