Job Description
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is looking for an administrative professional to join the Flatirons Campus near Boulder, Colorado. The successful candidate will serve as the Business Support Professional for the Water Power Technology Validation Group Manager and the individuals and teams within this group. This group focuses on hydropower and marine energy applications, encompassing national stakeholder engagement, outreach activities, and ongoing engineering and science research.
Job Duties:
To be successful in this position an individual must be able to perform the following duties:
  • Assisting the Business Support team lead and other Business support team members as needed.
  • Purchase card ordering and reconciliation.
  • Meeting and event planning and scheduling, including coordination and logistics for on-site and potentially off-site meetings as well as webinars.
  • New Employee onboarding.
  • Working with Recruiting to input positions and schedule new hire interviews.
  • Coverage of reception desk for lunches, breaks, and PTO.
  • Interfacing with outside entities and individuals including subcontractors, vendors, speakers, and others as needed.
  • Processing work orders, move forms, and visitor approvals.
  • Working in numerous online administrative tools.
  • Coordinating foreign and domestic travel including submitting requests, tracking approvals, reserving airfare, lodging, and rental cars, and processing expense reports.
  • Campus tour coordination and scheduling.
  • Purchase orders, requisitions, and invoice processing.
  • Composing and editing letters, documents and presentations.
  • Assisting with publication preparation and documentation.
  • Work with a wide variety of day-to-day issues and work styles.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Operate in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate’s Degree or certification program of comparable scope or equivalent relevant education/experience. Solid knowledge of the job. Substantial understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job. Intermediate skills in applicable software packages and office equipment. Basic project administration skills. Ability to prioritize work. Proficient in written and verbal communications. Very good team and interpersonal skills.

  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
Additional Required Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing business support functions.
  • Understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the business support activities, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
  • Experience with applicable software packages and office equipment
  • Knowledge of specific principles, procedures and practices related to supported fields and disciplines.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle Business Suite, Workday, Concur and/ or other online software and tools.
  • Experience with webinars and other long-distance collaboration software and hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Work well under pressure when necessary.
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Business Support II / Annual Salary Range: $42,700 – $68,300

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
