The Administrative Assistant III position provides day-to-day support for the Department of Political Science; as well as department support, this position provides administrative assistance to the Department Chair and the Department Administrator. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage competing priorities as well as the ability to work independently in dealing with the diverse elements of the UW campus. The individual in this position must demonstrate a commitment to facilitating a welcoming environment, willingness to continue understanding diversity, equity and inclusion within higher education. This position assists in organizing multiple facets of the department that requires the ability to prioritize responsibilities, exercise initiative, self-motivation, and critical thinking with complex tasks or problems. The individual must thrive in a team environment as well as be comfortable with independent judgement.
This position is an integral part of the department providing front office administrative support, serving as a first point-of -contact to staff, faculty, and graduate students. This position will also be the lead for coordinating a variety of logistics such as what’s needed for events, travel for faculty recruitments, graduate students, speakers, and other departmental needs. This position is further responsible for coordinating faculty meetings and assistant professor, tenure, and post tenure reviews.

The typical starting hourly rate for this position is $26.00 – $30.62 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
This is a part time on-site position with the ability of remote work one day a month and one day every other week in the summer defined by UW dates. Remote work will begin after the period of evaluation. We are a department that strives to work with a variety of schedules while maintaining coverage during core business hours.
