A Snapshot of Your Day

As the third shift Supervisor for Exciters/Electrical Test Department in the Generator Operations business you will lead people & projects to completion for critical customer outages that help keep the lights on. The shift you will be supporting will be 12am – 8am. As the supervisor, you will start your day an hour prior to shift start to perform a shift turnover with the 2nd shift supervisor. You will lead daily toolbox meetings at the start of shift each day, focusing on Safety, Quality and assignments for the shift. At times, you may find it necessary to assist your employees in completing a task. If any of the areas need assistance, you would help them or call for help as needed. It is important that you be visible on the floor to make sure things run efficiently. You will be expected to perform safety observations and provide positive coaching to get the operators to not only adhere to safe working practices but motivate them to coach other employees.

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed by all manufacturing personnel. Inform the employees of deficiencies, violations, and take corrective action, if necessary, to ensure that procedures and practices are being followed.
  • Assist in maintaining OSHA compliance on the plant floor, ensuring safety is a top priority in all aspects of the business.
  • Study daily operating results, meet daily with subordinates, and consult with supervisors or MEs on solutions to production problems. Ensure that problems have been corrected. Maintain cooperation between departments.
  • Ensure correct distribution of staff and assist with training for all new or transferred employees. Coordinate temporary staff requirements.
  • Authorize and evaluate the overtime requirement for production employees.
  • Assist in mediation of personnel problems and conduct disciplinary action when required.
  • Continuously coach and develop production team to ensure maximized training and flexibility.
  • Monitor customer production requirements and coordinate schedule adjustments when required.
  • Monitor and ensure documentation of employee attendance records.
  • Evaluate production reports, metrics, and make decisions that impact the results of the area of responsibility to established short- and long-range goals.
  • Responsible for reviewing performance against operating plans and standards.
  • You will promote and participate in continuous improvement/lean activities that meet operational excellence expectations.
  • Understand how to extract information contained in SAP (Quality notifications, drawing retrieval, line-up printing, material status, etc.)
  • Ensure Quality Control Instructions (QCIs) are completed and filled out correctly.
  • Motivate operators to hit or exceed hours targets and work with them to generate ideas to further reduce the time needed to build the units.
  • Monitor shop supplies purchases to make sure we are not wasteful and don’t overrun targets

What You Bring

  • A bachelors degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, an associates degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a high school degree with 8+ years of experience in manufacturing operations.
  • 2+ years of manager/supervisor/team lead experience is preferred
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of brushless excitation systems is a plus
