As a Mechanical Engineer at Good Carbon, you'll have the opportunity to lead the strategic development of our energy systems, collaborating with a range of experts to bring visionary projects to life.
The following is a list of items the mechanical engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, leading:
Responsibilities:
Concept Development:
<ul>
 <li>Collaborate with our architects, master tradesman and other engineers to develop and refine design concepts for net-zero multi-family buildings.</li>
 <li>Research, analyze, and propose innovative building systems and technologies that optimize energy efficiency and sustainability.</li>
 <li>Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for various design options.</li>
</ul>
Technical Design & Engineering:
<ul>
 <li>Design, calculate, and specify HVAC, plumbing, and hot water systems and electrical for maximum energy efficiency and occupant comfort such as:</li>
 <li>Heating and Cooling Equipment sizing</li>
 <li>Duct sizing</li>
 <li>Storage tank sizing</li>
 <li>Piping and manifold specification</li>
 <li>Safety relief valve sizing</li>
 <li>Liquid pump sizing</li>
 <li>Pressure drop calculations</li>
</ul>
Added plus:
<ul>
 <li>Detailed electric load sizing calculation</li>
 <li>Transformers and gear sizing</li>
 <li>Lighting, power distribution, and communication systems</li>
 <li>Perform load calculations for heating and cooling systems, ensuring compliance with energy code requirements.</li>
 <li>Design and specifications for building heating, cooling, ventilation and domestic hot water systems and layouts.</li>
 <li>Collaborate to select and specify building materials and equipment based on sustainability, performance, and cost considerations.</li>
 <li>Design and specifications for EV charging infrastructure and electrical design (A Plus).</li>
</ul>
Documentation & Team Collaboration:
<ul>
 <li>Develop and maintain accurate technical drawings, schematics, and specifications for all design aspects.</li>
 <li>Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of systems and designs.</li>
 <li>Participate in project meetings and manage assigned tasks within established deadlines and budgets.</li>
 <li>Collaborate with our construction teams to ensure accurate implementation of design intent.</li>
 <li>Identify and propose solutions to potential engineering challenges arising during construction.</li>
</ul>
Continuous Learning & Development:
<ul>
 <li>Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and standards development to address system issues and enhance reliability.</li>
 <li>Stay informed about the latest advancements in sustainable building technologies and design practices.</li>
 <li>Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain relevant certifications.</li>
</ul>
Qualifications:
<ul>
 <li>Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field or minimum of 5+ years of experience designing and engineering commercial and residential buildings.</li>
 <li>Proven experience in designing and specifying sustainable building systems, such as HVAC, high-performance plumbing, EV charging stations, and electrical systems. (A Plus)</li>
 <li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.</li>
 <li>Excellent communication and collaboration skills.</li>
 <li>Strong understanding of energy modeling software.</li>
 <li>Commitment to sustainable design principles and practices.</li>
 <li>Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.</li>
 <li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.</li>
</ul>
**Bonus points for:
<ul>
 <li>Manual J load calculations</li>
 <li>Energy modeling and building simulation</li>
 <li>CEM certification</li>
 <li>BEMP certification</li>
 <li>PE or FE certification</li>
 <li>BPI building analyst certification</li>
 <li>Experience with net-zero building projects.</li>
 <li>Electrical Engineering/experience.</li>

Pay: $68,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
