Peregrine Energy Solutions is looking for a team-oriented Construction Manager (CM) to oversee the construction phase of our renewable energy generation and storage assets. The CM will be responsible for leading the successful installation and transition to operations of high-quality Projects on time, on budget, and with a stellar safety record. The successful candidate will be a leader with exemplary communication, planning, and management skills and a passion for constructing renewable energy infrastructure. The individual will need to navigate the transition from a startup company to a larger organization, while working with internal and external stakeholders.
This position will be responsible for:
- Construction oversight of utility and distribution scale renewable energy assets, including Wind, Solar, and Energy Storage
- Close, proactive coordination with internal and external Commissioning and Operations teams as necessary to ensure a successful transition from installation to operations.
- Development and implementation of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) best practices
- Representing the Owner onsite and coordinating with contractors, vendors, utilities, and project stakeholders
Essential Responsibilities:
The position will be responsible for the following items, as they relate to Construction Management. Responsibilities may arise beyond this, as necessary to support deliberate organizational growth and capabilities development.
Development
- Constructability reviews for early development efforts including site control, preliminary design support, site discovery documentation (Geotech, survey, etc.) to identify construction and operational risks.
- Support M&A efforts including the review of development and operational assets for purchase by Peregrine to identify EPC risks and opportunities.
- Create and maintain construction-phase project schedules.
- Site visits to development and M&A locations as needed.
Execution
- Participate in the RFP process for EPC services including scope of work development and contract review.
- Coordinate and contract with local utilities for temporary and permanent site services (e.g. auxiliary power, telecom, etc.)
- Arrange for the removal and relocation of existing site infrastructure and improvements to support construction.
- Review 30/60/90/IFC design packages for constructability and quality control
- Oversee construction activities by EPC contractors and equipment suppliers.
- Attend factory acceptance testing as required.
- Coordinate delivery, inspection, and installation of Owner furnished equipment.
- Interface with landowners, interconnecting utility, and other project stakeholders
- Monitor and inspect site to ensure all HSQE requirements are met or exceeded, including performance of routine audits of contractor and supplier documentation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key equipment suppliers and contractors.
- Negotiate and vet change order work as required.
- Attend and participate in contractor PODs and perform daily site walks.
- Development and management of Owner HSQE program
- Develop and maintain construction specifications and scope of work templates.
- Work with internal and external engineers to ensure competent design.
- Troubleshoot and resolve engineering and construction issues impacting projects, including coordinating efforts across multiple parties and stakeholders.
- Full-time presence onsite during project construction with additional travel as required.
- Provide weekly and monthly progress reports for active Projects.
- Coordinate delivery, installation, and Commissioning of Owner-Furnished Equipment
- Support and manage energization and switching activities with Commissioning Team, EPC contractor, and interconnecting utility.
- Support and assist with the commissioning process, including startup, equipment testing, and plant-wide performance testing to achieve approval for commercial operations.
- Review and close out project job books and ensure a clean handover to operations.
- Up to 100% travel
Required Skills/Experience
Desired candidate will have the following skills or experience:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree - engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent technical qualifications
- OSHA 30 (minimum). Other advanced safety and/or Quality Control certifications preferred.
- Skills:
- Excels at working with cross-functional teams throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Ability to manage the resolution of engineering and construction related issues from both a technical and commercial aspect.
- Familiar with civil, structural, electrical and SCADA engineering fundamentals and associated construction methodologies as it relates to renewable energy infrastructure.
- Competent in MS Office, including MS Project
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization clearly and succinctly.
Experience:
- 5+ years of construction management experience for utility-scale generation (wind, solar, energy storage), including high voltage infrastructure.
- Support of business and/or project development, including estimating, constructability reviews, and risk identification.
- Experience monitoring and coordinating site construction activities including startup and commissioning.
- Management of 3rd party permitting, engineering, and commissioning consultants
- Experience working with utilities and Balancing Authorities to construct and commission renewable energy assets.
Salary: Salary Range is $135k to $175k
Bonus: This position may be eligible to receive an annual cash incentive bonus capped at a % of your base salary and pending your performance review.
