The Position:
The Performance Engineer position is a remote position that plays an important role with this rapid growing company. This is a very dynamic and fast-track position reporting to the Head of BESS with our Center of Expertise. The position will be the key member of Service team. This is a highly technical customer facing position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of tasks involved in the analysis of the operation of BESS products.
- Develop methods to detect battery string and Inverter under performance.
- Analyze reported downtime and evaluate potential causes.
- Analyze failures for trends requiring proactive actions and provide reports on findings.
- Receive, investigate, and validate customer claims of non-compliance with contractual requirements.
- Provide recommendations to customers for any downtime due to an external system.
- Build strong relationships with customers based on thorough understanding of Energy storage challenges and solutions relating to the application of Sungrow Products.
- Assist in investigating BESS issues (such as DC arrays, grid faults/transients, battery cell imbalance, cooling imbalance, design issues, etc.).
- Assist company stakeholders in analyzing fleet downtime and respective trends on Sungrow equipment with a Reliability Engineer.
- Work with customer SCADA engineers to and advise on what equipment data to collect to analyze equipment performance, and conduct availability reporting.
- Alert leadership of equipment trends/issues and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Provide feedback to R&D team for common issues affecting contractual requirements.
- Actively contribute to the development of the Service Knowledge Base.
- Interface with other technical and non-technical personnel communicating at a technical level that can be understood by the person that is receiving the information.
- Develop automated data processing to generate performance/availability reports on supplied equipment.
- Validate performance reports provided by vendors and participate in report meetings between customers and vendors.
- Review customer reporting requirements and provide feedback on any Sungrow requirements.
- Understand contracts and documentation on assigned projects to know requirements, track those requirements using internal data from CMMS system and customer provided data, and report on compliance with those requirements.
- Learn technical operations of Battery storage to understand causes of underperformance.
- Assist identifying means to improve company processes or gaps.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5 plus years of overall experience.
- 2 years of experience with battery storage product performance/reporting.
- Must possess customer service, problem-solving skills, and independent thinking.
- Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiar with databases and conducting data analysis (python or similar programming language).
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, power Point and Outlook).
Education or Desired License and Certificates:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Solar industry, battery industry, or power electronics experience is required

For candidates in the states of California, Colorado, New York and Washington, the anticipated annual base salary for this role is between $90,000 - $135,000 This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The base salary offered is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, location, or other factors related to the role.
