Job Description
The H+H Corporate Decarbonization Office is committed to implementing energy management best practices across H+H’s portfolio to help meet the City’s GHG emissions reduction targets, including LL97 targets of 40x25, 50x30, and 80x50. H+H’s portfolio includes eleven (11) acute-care hospitals; five (5) long-term care facilities; and multiple Community health centers. H+H seeks to hire an Energy Project Manager (Grant Funded Position) to serve within our Program. The Energy Project Manager (Grant Funded Position) will report to the Director of Energy Management and be responsible for helping implement energy efficiency projects, renewable energy projects and retro-commissioning (retro-cx) measures across H+H’s portfolio of facilities.
General tasks and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Delivering energy efficiency projects: Working closely with consultants and contractors, manage design and construction for energy efficiency projects and ensure that projects are completed in a timely, cost-effective manner. Review, provide comments, and make recommendations on design packages submitted by consultants for projects. Review contractor proposals for accuracy. Manage contracts and budget throughout project implementation.
- Performing project tracking and reporting: Maintain project-related documentation, including work orders, scopes of work, cost proposals, invoices, project status sheets, and progress reports. Perform data collection and tracking necessary to ensure accurate, on-demand project reporting in a range of areas, including compliance with project schedules, budgets, and scopes and verified energy savings and emissions reductions.
- Performing site visits throughout the project implementation process: Conduct frequent field visits; verify and refine proposed scopes of work; facilitate consultants and contractors’ walk-throughs; ensure projects’ compliance with scopes and schedules set forth in contract documents; inspect completed work for project close-outs and resolve technical issues.
- Managing energy efficiency project scoping: Assess energy usage reduction opportunities at H+H facilities. Develop and review scopes of work for energy efficiency projects, working closely with contractors and consultants. Review completed energy audits, retro-cx studies, and feasibility reports for buildings to assist with project selection and provide recommendations regarding innovative alternative technologies.
- Quantifying energy conservation opportunities: Perform technical calculations to estimate the expected energy savings, cost savings, and emissions reductions for energy efficiency projects. Help prepare applications for funding programs.
- Liaising with various stakeholders: Collaborate with facilities management teams, consultants, and contractors during energy project design and implementation: As designated, represent H+H in meetings with different facilities teams, consultants, and contractors involved in energy efficiency project implementation
- Supporting project measurement and verification (“M&V”): Help develop M&V plans consistent with the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol.
- Providing other necessary support to the H+H Corporate Energy Office: Contribute to the other initiatives being advanced by the H+H Corporate Energy Office as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare, Hospital, Public, or Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Behavior or a related field and three years of full-time experience planning, developing and monitoring programs, systems and/or procedures in support of administrative management initiatives, one year of which must have been in a responsible managerial or supervisory capacity; or
- A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Healthcare, Hospital, Public, or Business Administration, Psychology or a related discipline and four years of fulltime experience as outlined in 1 above, two years of which must have been in a responsible managerial or supervisory capacity; or
- A satisfactory combination of education, training and experience.
Department Preferences
Preference will be given to those with:
- A bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, architecture, energy management, construction management, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of combined experience in project management and/or proficiency in energy efficiency which includes expertise in planning, developing, implementing, inspecting, analyzing, testing, and validating interventions aimed at either generating clean energy or reducing energy consumption of HVAC and other building and medical systems.
- Basic understanding of building energy systems and energy-efficient technologies.
- Some experience with design and construction of energy efficiency retrofit projects in existing healthcare facilities, including projects of varying age, size, and use.
- General working knowledge of various HVAC systems (boilers, chillers, air handling units, rooftop units, building automation systems), air, steam, and chilled water distribution systems, and other heating and cooling applications.
- Familiarity with technical project management, including project planning, scope development, design & construction management, and project close-out.
- Understanding of ASHRAE Energy standards and familiarity with NYC energy, mechanical, and electrical codes.
- Working knowledge of energy costs and billing, energy savings calculation methodologies, and emissions calculations methodologies.
