The energy industry is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, moving away from fossil fuels to alternative sources of clean energy. At the same time, the risks posed by climate change and aging infrastructure require an array of dynamic and innovative solutions to deliver resilient utility services. Decarbonization will require detailed planning, multi-disciplinary collaboration, financial resources, and motivated staff to support successful implementation. Jacobs is expanding our team to tackle the complexities of decarbonization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future. We are searching for an Entry-Level Energy Systems Modeler to join our North American Energy & Power team.

This position can be based anywhere in North America but preference will be to candidates located within a commutable distance to Denver, CO, Gainesville, FL, Cary, NC, or Ft Worth, TX. As an Energy Systems Modeler, you will collaborate and innovate with other professionals across our Energy & Power projects, you’ll grow your consulting career as you develop and implement project plans and designs, ensuring product quality, safety, and on-schedule and on-budget completion. We’ll harness your creative and analytical mindset to help develop strategies to solve our clients’ challenging energy needs.

Working together, we’ll help you grow and pursue what fulfills you so that we can make impacts on the future – big and small, global and local. Your primary responsibilities will focus on energy and financial modeling for the evaluation of technology configuration options, preferred system control hierarchies, and project financing options. In addition, you will assist the team with the development of simulation tools tailored to client-specific needs. You’ll be expected to possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges while supporting teams responsible for the daily details of project delivery. You’ll utilize your skills and push yourself to learn more in this role as you evaluate and plan the operations of microgrids and distributed energy resources for typical facility operations and enhanced reliability. Here’s what you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or other closely related field
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft VBA and Python
  • Previous experience with data analysis and ability to create innovative data visualizations to illustrate modeling results
  • Ability to efficiently utilize time in executing tasks accurately and on time

Ideally, you will also have

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or other relevant field
  • Familiarity and experience constructing energy and financial models
  • Previous work or internship experience with renewable energy generation and energy storage

The base salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $85,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
