JOB SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for conceptualizing products, providing leadership by example and driving development of a wide range of technology-based products in the areas of ISO Containerized Energy Storage Systems, Electric Vehicle DC Fast Chargers, Grid Augmentation Power Systems, Data Center Power and Backup Systems, and Solar PV Systems. A key job focus is analyzing technical specifications and system requirements and providing technical and commercial feedback to internal Jabil and customer personnel to determine best approaches and feasibility of development within time and cost constraints of project expectations as well as driving technical solutions with internal and external resources throughout the development project cycle.

LOCATION

The team strongly prefers this position to be based on-site with the rest of the team in St. Petersburg, FL – Gandy location. However, they are open to this individual being remotely based with the ability to travel to the St. Petersburg, FL – Gandy location as needed (based on project needs); roughly 25% of the time or less.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP AND TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Support creation of R&D roadmaps for both products and technology competency.
  • Help drive funding activities to realize internal R&D reference platform funding for creation of reference platforms.
  • Drive the development of Intellectual Property, i.e. Patents, proprietary tools sets, etc.
  • Create effective professional relationships with customers and Jabil colleagues
  • Demonstrate adaptability and effectiveness in fast-changing business environments

Communication:

  • Organize and present verbal and written ideas clearly while utilizing an appropriate business style.
  • Ask questions; and encourage input from the team members.
  • Communicate design technical directions and host technology forums

BUSINESS AND FUNCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Strategy and Direction:

  • Know and understand the business product development team strategic directions.
  • Provide regular updates to Business Unit Directors (BUDs), Business Unit Managers (BUMs), sector leads, and functional engineering management on the execution of the strategy.

Cost Management:

  • Identify and implement creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).
  • Utilize tools to monitor project costs and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value and tools.
  • Provide feedback to peers, BUD, BUMs, and EMS Engineering management on cost and cost trends.
  • Manage creation and submission of project proposals and quotations.
  • Help maintain and drive technology roadmaps and product development strategies for business sector.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead product development efforts from concept to mass manufacturing within Jabil manufacturing facilities.
  • Be broadly knowledgeable technically and able to effectively work in engineering disciplines outside of your comfort zone.
  • Be willing and able to learn new concepts quickly and apply them to ongoing product development.
  • Lead and inspire by example.
  • Be the subject matter expert for the design and customer teams for multiple centers of excellence, such as electromagnetic compatibility, engineering design tools, power electronics, structural design, thermal management, SW architecture and design concepts, test methodology, PCBA design for manufacturing, mass production and assembly, tooling, functional safety, regulatory approvals, etc.
  • Help drive the development and maintenance of processes and methods for product and technology architecture development and documentation, system design and documentation, and requirements engineering.
  • Identify internal and external resources that can support the product development cycle and architecture cycles.
  • Know and learn component, circuit, product, and process level technologies to support the overall direction of product design and development.
  • Lead Product Realization Proposals, System Specifications, Product Architectures, PRD, MRD, DFMEAs, PFMEAS, design reviews, test plans, integration plans, etc ., in collaboration with senior technical staff and Customers.
  • Lead design reviews. Develop and maintain a culture where team members understand design reviews are an opportunity to learn and acquire new skills.
  • Guide and oversee the development of systems/products to maintain the consistency and integrity of the product architecture.
  • Architect and guide analysis and simulation activities necessary to determine performance, reliability, bandwidth and other system design characteristics.
  • Help provide the lowest cost solution that meets the customer needs and expectations. Including concept, functional features, product development, components, and design process.
  • Architect requirements for engineering activities in support of platform and product development.
  • Architect the development and implementation of platform and products in collaboration with senior technical staff.
  • Guide and oversee the development of system component requirements, interfaces, and specifications necessary to maintain the consistency and integrity of the product developments.
  • Lead product design and documentation at a system and product level.
  • Work to develop partners and suppliers, when applicable to provide the best technical and cost solution.
  • Build Jabil technical and business design space competency; make Jabil experts in this space.
  • Work with specific regional design centers to enhance product and technical development overall capability.
  • Help sell Jabil Technical Services, services and when applicable, supporting products.
  • Make Jabil shine in customer interactions; RFI/RFQ and kickoff interactions.
  • Work with peers and Engineering Teams to develop detailed product design specifications and drive implementation.
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by management.
  • Comply and follow all Jabil processes and procedures within the company.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors in both formal and informal settings.
  • Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of vendor software packages.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, statistical process control, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to simplify problems to provide timely first-order solutions.
  • Ability to apply math concepts to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply advanced engineering mathematical concepts to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to apply engineering mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related.
  • 10-12+ years of experience in concept-to-production development experience/full product development is essential (concept, requirements, system architecture, specification, design, drawing release, change order management, testing, validation, production).
  • Experience in Energy Storage Systems, EV Charging Systems, power electronics, grid power generation and distribution, battery and/or charging systems.
  • Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical CAD tools.
  • Experience in high-level software development.
  • Experience in WindChill and DevOps are a plus.
  • Or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training.

The pay range for this role is $116,421 – $209,557. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity. The anticipated close date of this job requisition is: October 31, 2024.
