QAQC & Commissioning Technician

Midwest/East Coast Residency (75% Travel / 25% Remote)

Company Overview:

Develops, designs, builds and maintains solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems for utilities, industrial, and commercial companies. We are headquartered in Cumming, GA. We are a dynamic team and maintain a high level of detail in all aspects of construction and business communications.

Currently hiring a talented QAQC & Commissioning Technician to ensure that all solar construction projects are completed per construction specifications. This position supports the Construction and Operations teams and works with site supervisors, subcontractors, and personnel from all departments. Applicants should have experience in construction, including electrical experience, and a thorough understanding of the solar construction processes and architecture. The ability to keep disciplined and organized schedules, documents, plans, and side responsibilities while meeting deadlines is a strong requirement of this position. Applicants should be able to provide pre-construction support by reviewing civil, structural, and electrical design plans with a critical eye and attention to requirements. Great communication is required with co-workers and management on all items, including those that will require critical decisions. Ensuring that Safety procedures are implemented on all active job sites is expected.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, understanding, and performing commissioning procedures, including safely working in and around energized equipment.
  • Involvement with troubleshooting inverters when needed.
  • Complete through documented QAQC checks on all aspects of installation.
  • Involvement in the project design phase so that informed support can be offered during construction and well as organized QAQC visits.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards while following company-wide safety practices, policies, and training.
  • Schedule flexibility and ability to prioritize tasks. Also, strong ability to efficiently manage travel and office responsibilities.
  • Knowledge on how to operate various hand tools required to perform critical tasks.
  • Knowledge of full solar installation and civil construction processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel with the ability to deliver detailed, professional inspection reports utilizing company templates.
  • Provide pre-construction support by reviewing civil, structural, and electrical design plans with a critical eye and attention to requirements.
  • Liaison with Client, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and/or internal departments on quality related matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to plan and reserve travel accommodations and/or have reliable transportation to and from project sites.
  • Ability to work on weekends and holidays may be required.

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to problem solve especially when unfavorable events occur. e.g., schedule conflicts, budget impact, unexpected events, etc..
  • Ability to analyze testing and commissioning reports with a critical eye to identify potential issues.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, DMV check and criminal background check.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, supply chain or other related fields preferred. Comparable experience considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of electrical experience, including NFPA 70E electrical training and a thorough understanding of electrical hazards.
  • Experience and proficiency in reading and understanding design sets, construction plans, installation manuals, and related documents.
  • 3 years’ experience in the utility scale solar construction industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft /Google Workspace platforms.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Solmetric I-V Curve Trace tools and software to test and analyze PV strings.
  • Proficiency in utilizing FLIR Thermal Imaging tools and software to photograph and commission electrical equipment and conductors.
  • Experience working in Procore is appreciated but not mandatory.
  • Collaborative mindset and approach to all duties and tasks.

  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter and motivated.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Authorized to work in the United States with current residency.

Location

  • The QAQC & Commissioning Technician will be required to travel 75% with the remaining 25% spent creating reports, finalizing inspections, etc. from home office.
  • Must be willing to work during EST business hours.
