Job Description

Job Summary: The Senior Substation Design Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the design and implementation of high-voltage substation projects. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced engineer who can ensure that all designs meet technical standards, safety regulations, and client specifications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in substation design, project management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of high-voltage substations, including the preparation of detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Perform complex engineering calculations and analysis to support design decisions.
  • Develop and review design drawings, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, codes, and regulations, including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify design compliance and support construction activities.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide status updates, and address technical issues as they arise.
  • Continuously improve design processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in substation design engineering, with a focus on high-voltage projects.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing engineering projects from concept to completion.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, ETAP, and other relevant tools.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, high-voltage equipment, and protection and control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC) and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with renewable energy projects and integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.
  • Familiarity with utility company standards and practices.
  • Experience in project management software and tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety protocols and risk assessment in high-voltage environments.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment with occasional travel to project sites.
  • May require extended hours to meet project deadlines.
