Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an Operations Analyst or Senior to join our Power Supply team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does an Operations Analyst or Senior do for us?

Under limited supervision and in a team environment, this role is responsible for data analysis and modeling related to Idaho Power’s resources and operational planning. Working with others, the Operations Analyst or Senior will perform operational planning including related to risk management strategies and, with inputs from other areas, will create and present to management periodic resource plans, using specialized software and processes. The Analyst will also evaluate, analyze, and develop recommendations regarding wholesale energy market products and will assist with resource integration studies, among other analysis.

In addition, the Operations Analyst or Senior will analyze performance and utilization of the Company’s resources. The Analyst will develop metrics and reports, evaluate strategies, and develop recommendations.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge Of:

  • Data analysis methodologies
  • Wholesale electric markets (bilateral or organized)
  • Types of electric generation facilities

Preferred:

  • Utility resource planning and modeling
  • Balancing Area Operations process and strategies
  • Utility business practices
  • California ISO market systems and associated data elements
  • Wholesale energy and capacity market energy and capacity market fundamentals (bilateral markets and Western Energy Imbalance Market)

Skills In:

  • Written and oral communication
  • Policy or procedure development and analysis
  • Attention to detail/good organizational skills
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Analyzing and interpreting financial, numerical, and statistical data, including large and complex data sets
  • Project planning and management principles

Preferred:

  • Experience with Pi data, SQL, VBA, database, and Power BI
  • Advance level Microsoft Excel

Ability To:

  • Analyze large sets of data and draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Analyze policy or regulatory documents, summarize requirements, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
  • Work effectively with immediate team members and individuals from cross-functional teams
  • Research questions and perform analysis independently

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Operations Analyst

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or related field

OR

  • Equivalent combination of appropriate training and/or experience

Experience:

  • 3 years of demonstrated experience in real time grid operations, data analysis, transmission planning or design, financial analysis, and/ or utility operations analysis
  • Preferred:
  • Advanced accounting and reporting functions, Transmission Scheduling
  • 3 years of directly related experience in an organized electric utility market or independent system operator or its substantive equivalent

Senior Operations Analyst

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, or related field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of appropriate training and/or experience.

Experience:

  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in real time grid operations, data analysis, transmission planning or design, financial analysis, and/or utility operations analysis.

Preferred:

  • Advanced accounting and reporting functions
  • Transmission scheduling
  • 5 years of directly related experience in an organized electric utility market or independent system operator or its substantive equivalent

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
