Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for two Engineering and Construction Project Manager or Seniors to join our Resource Execution Projects team in the Planning, Engineering, and Construction department with a focus on new supply-side resource projects primarily consisting of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Wind, Solar, and other technologies as applicable.

Idaho Power’s service territory continues to experience customer growth and an increasing peak demand (load) for electricity. Idaho Power anticipates sustained load growth that will require the procurement of new resources to meet peak demand and maintain system reliability. The addition of new resources is critical to ensure Idaho Power can continue to reliably meet the growing demands on its electrical system and serve its customers.

While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.

What does an Engineering and Construction Project Manager or Senior do for us?

A Project Manager on the Resource Execution Projects team is responsible for all facets of project management of a variety of resource-based projects. Idaho Power is expanding our energy and capacity resources through a diversity of contract structures and requires project managers experienced in implementation of renewables, storage, and new energy technologies that achieve corporate goals relating to system capacity, reliability and financial performance.

They lead the successful development and execution of project plans, including safety, scope, cost, schedule, cash flow, quality and risk for multi-discipline construction projects. They lead project team members and subject matter experts and direct performance of the team to achieve completion of the project on schedule and within budget. They typically lead multiple projects simultaneously and exercises latitude and technical judgment in decision-making and independent action.

Key Tasks Include:

• Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects:
• BESS procurement and contract negotiation
• Project siting and permitting including public outreach
• Engineering and design
• Owners Engineer management including quality control, design review, and technical coordination
• Material and equipment procurement
• Construction management
• Inspection and quality control
• Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) contract negotiation
• Project close-out and operational support
• Contract management of resource contracts that may sell a completed project and assets to Idaho Power through a Build-Transfer Agreement (BTA) or sell energy to Idaho Power through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Battery Storage Agreement (BSA), or similar.
• Contract negotiation
• Contract management
• Owners Engineer management including quality control, design review, and technical coordination
• Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) contract negotiation
• Project close-out and operational support

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge Of:

• Engineering, design, and construction principles related to the electric utility industry
• Operating and maintenance principles and methods to the electric utility industry
• The latest methods, materials, estimating, and equipment used in construction
• Company specifications and regulations pertaining to the safe design, construction, operation, and maintenance of facilities
• Project and contract management practices

Preferred:

• Complex engineering systems
• BESS, Wind, and Solar resource project development and operations including supply agreements negotiation, project execution, and contract management

Skills In:

• Excellent interpersonal and professional communication
• Effective in written and oral communication and various communication techniques
• Team facilitation
• Effective in budget and schedule development and management
• Demonstrated project management skills and related project management software experience
• Microsoft Project Server, Microsoft Office products, Passport Work Management, Asset Suite, and PeopleSoft

Ability To:

• Read and understand engineered drawings and diagrams
• Use good judgment in applying established guidelines to solving and resolving problems
• Develop and analyze alternatives
• Prepare written and oral reports
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Work independently and in teams
• Conduct meetings, lead project teams, understand contracts, and facilitate internal and external project conflicts
• Manage and track multiple project timelines, budgets and forecasts

Preferred:

• Negotiate contracts and resolve conflicts
• Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports
• Operate independently and with some latitude

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Engineering and Construction Project Manager

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, Construction Management or related field

OR

• Equivalent combination of education and experience in journeyman-level electric utility work, electric utility construction design, full-scope construction project management or electric utility construction project resource scheduling, and intent to pursue PMP certification

Experience:

• 2 years of related project management or engineering experience

Licenses & Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

Senior Engineering and Construction Project Manager

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, Construction Management or related field

OR

• Equivalent combination of education and experience in journey-level electric utility work, electric utility construction design, full-scope construction project management or electric utility construction project resource scheduling plus PMP certification

Experience:

• 6 years of related project management or engineering experience, including at least 3 years of full-scope utility project management

Licenses & Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may occasionally stand/walk on uneven surfaces of construction sites up to 8 hours (with periodic breaks) in different weather environments, while wearing PPE. Climbing of stairs and ladders is occasionally required in power generation facilities. Lifting/carrying of up to a 17.5 lb. lap top bag and up to 20 lb. survey equipment is performed occasionally with assistance available if needed. Crouching, kneeling, and stooping/bending is required occasionally. Driving of up to 4 hours throughout the IPC service area is required occasionally. Approximately 80% of the work is performed in an office environment with computer use and phone conversation, requiring sitting up to 8 hours daily.
