As a key technical contributor to the Elastomers Center of Excellence team, the Lead Engineer – Elastomers position will be a subject matter expert and advisor on various aspects of elastomer compounding, products and technology. This position is a recognized expert that creates technically differentiated solutions that result in higher performance BOP elastomer seals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Use compounding and rubber chemistry expertise to lead and execute seal programs from R&D to manufacturing and commercialization.
  • Relate intrinsic material properties such as strength, modulus, tear, chemical resistance, fatigue, adhesion to real-world product performance.
  • Communicate technical knowledge and experimental findings in both written and verbal formats to peers, management and support staff in a concise and clear manner.
  • Analyze data and interpret results using sound scientific principles, providing recommendations to the team with regards to compounding, material selection, curing and test design.
  • Write new specifications controlling the quality of seal products.
  • Provide manufacturing support for compounding, processing, molding,
  • Communicate with vendors, product engineering and customers to resolve elastomer related technical issues.
  • Develop and drive new processes to enhance value to the business.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of relevant experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant technical level experience.

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s degree in polymer science, material engineering chemistry, or chemical engineering.
  • Master’s degree of PhD degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in elastomers/rubber technology.
  • Prior Oilfield Experience.
  • Knowledge of HNBR, XNBR and NBR compounds along with in-depth knowledge of the latest technologies on composites and polymer.
  • Demonstrated work experience, publications, or filed IP in areas of material design, property-structure relationships and characterization.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive level presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers.
  • Clear thinker with ability to develop, communicate, and deliver clear strategy and action plans.
  • Ability to sort through information and make timely and sound decisions.
