Company Overview: Our client, a leading technology company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team in San Jose, CA. This position is crucial in supporting the electrical infrastructure of multiple site operations. The role requires close collaboration with full-time employees and full-service vendor teams to ensure reliable electrical services, minimize downtime, and maintain equipment efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Electrical and Safety Systems Oversight:
- Oversee and serve as the subject matter expert on site electrical systems, including high voltage distribution, fire/life safety systems, and critical utilities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant codes and regulations, providing guidance on the operation, maintenance, and optimization of these systems.
- Act as the primary point of contact with local power utilities.
Project Management:
- Lead electrical infrastructure projects, from scope development to budgeting and scheduling.
- Plan and coordinate site-wide electrical system shutdowns.
- Conduct technical reviews of field switching procedures and arc flash studies, ensuring safe execution of work.
Design and Construction Support:
- Provide technical consultation for the client’s customers, particularly in research and development labs.
- Review designs and submittals from external engineering firms, ensuring compliance with codes and client interests.
- Support construction and commissioning activities.
Maintenance and Upgrades:
- Identify cost-effective solutions for necessary upgrades and replacements of electrical equipment.
- Direct maintenance and upgrade activities by PME technicians and vendors.
- Investigate electrical incidents (e.g., power dips, surges) and provide recommendations for future prevention.
Energy Management:
- Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives, such as lighting upgrades and solar power generation.
- Review power monitoring system (PME) data to troubleshoot and optimize electrical system performance.
Skills And Professional Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; a graduate degree is preferred.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a complex facilities environment, with expertise in the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure.
- Strong project management experience, including scope development, budgeting, and scheduling.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, power monitoring systems, and other relevant tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, generate field switching procedures, and conduct arc flash studies.
- Knowledge of building management systems and federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, NEC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA70, and NFPA70E.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and other temporary access points.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
